PORTALES, N.M. – The Greyhounds prepare for three more games in LSC conference play this week, starting with a home matchup with Midwestern State on Wednesday, Oct. 5, with first serve at 6 p.m. Wednesday's match will serve as the programs Pink Night and Youth Day. From there, Eastern hit the road heading to UT Permian Basin on Friday, Oct. 7, with the match starting at 6 p.m. Finally, the Greyhounds will take on Angelo State on Saturday, Oct. 8, beginning at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
ENMU ended last week with a 3-1 victory over St. Edward's University on Saturday, Oct. 1.
Mikaela Garvin led the attack with 21 kills, while
Gracelyn Stubbs contributed 14 kills. First year setter
Kayla Ison had a career afternoon with 28 assists and 15 digs in the match (Both team highs).
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
So far this season, the Greyhounds hold a 10-9 record, including a 1-6 standing in LSC play. The Hounds offense is finding 11.9 kills per set (k/s), with 10.8 assists per set (a/s). Eastern are a strong team defensively, providing 16.5 digs per set (d/s) and 2.1 blocks per set (b/s). From the service line, ENMU post 1.5 service aces per set (sa/s).
Garvin paces the attack 3.09 k/s, with Stubbs just behind with 2.18 k/s.
Jaylynn Nihipali leads the Greyhounds with 4.80 a/s, while
Qitana Sapiga supplies 3.95 a/s. On defense,
Getsemani Carrasco holds a team lead in digs (336 digs), averaging 4.48 d/s. At the net, Stubbs has 62.0 total blocks, with Garvin holding 54.0 total blocks, and
Adriana Puni adding 51 total blocks.
In the Lone Star Conference, the ENMU defense is holding teams to a conference best .132 opponent hitting percentage, along with 10.59 opponent k/s (2
nd in LSC), 14.87 opponent d/s (4
th in conference), and 1.29 opponent sa/s (top five mark in LSC). Individually, Stubbs is 5
th in the Lone Star for hitting percentage at .328.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State currently have a record of 3-14, 1-4 LSC coming into Wednesday's match. The Mustangs have had a week to rest since its last match, a 3-0 defeat to Lubbock Christian.
MSU are finding 12.2 k/s in attack and collecting 11.4 a/s. The Mustang's defense is providing 17.3 d/s along with 1.2 b/s.
Sadie Portmann and Aaliyah Burras provide the offensive output with 2.66 k/s and 2.37 k/s, respectively. Autumn Roach leads the assists category with 6.19 a/s, with Regan Willms just behind at 5.00 a/s. Taygon Jones patrols the middle with 5.09 d/s, while Burras leads the team with 32.0 total blocks.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
The Falcons and Greyhounds will meet for the second time this season, with UTPB taking the first matchup 3-1 (8/26/22). UT Permian Basin stand at 9-8 overall, holding a 4-2 conference standing. The Falcons picked up a 3-0 sweep over Western New Mexico in its last match.
As a team, UTPB compile 10.4 k/s and distribute 9.4 a/s. On the other side of the ball, UTPB pick up 14.2 d/s and finish with 2.0 b/s.
Aquincia Strambler is the provider for the UT Permian Basin offense, posting 2.66 k/s. The UTPB setters are spread out between Devin Alcoser (4.34 a/s), Maya Detwiler (3.72 a/s), and Jenna Gray (3.10 a/s). Daylee Doggett leads the defense with 4.07 d/s and Taurie Magee finds 1.03 b/s at the net.
SCOUTING THE RAMBELLES
Despite getting off to a slow start, Angelo State hold a 9-9 record and 5-1 LSC standing, winning six of their last seven matches. In its last weekend, the Rambelles dropped a contest to #15 West Texas A&M, 3-0, while picking up a 3-2 victory over Cameron University.
So far this campaign, the Rambelles are averaging 12.2 k/s and 11.5 assists per set. Angelo State's defense is averaging 15.4 d/s and finding 2.1 b/s.
ASU have a balanced attack, with five different student-athletes averaging over 2.00 k/s: Sydney Mundkowsky (2.67 k/s) and Hannah Kinnison (2.34 k/s) lead that group. Kayla Baer is posting 5.13 a/s with Laney Dale not far behind at 5.00 a/s. Caleigh Enax is the teams center in defense with 4.33 d/s, and Maria Sanchez is the team leader in blocks at 1.27 b/s.
