PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer had four members receive Academic All-District® Honor from the College Sports Communicators (CSC), on Tuesday afternoon. Junior's
Haley Huff and
Samantha Jeffries were recognized alongside sophomores
Sofia Trejo and
Sierra Villanueva. Jeffries collects their second academic honor this season, while Huff, Trejo, and Villanueva pick up their first academic accolade. This is the first time any of the recipients have been selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
Jeffries, who was named to the LSC 2022 Women's Soccer All-Academic team, has held a 4.0 GPA in their academic career. The Digital Filmmaking major played every second of the season for holding a conference best 5.94 saves per game and 101 total saves. Jeffries finished second in the Lone Star Conference in save percentage (.842), helping the Greyhounds set a single season best for team save percentage (.847).
Villanueva picks up the accolade holding a 3.96 GPA, working towards a degree in Social Work. On the field, was a key member playing 15 games recording 14 starts and playing the full 90 minutes seven times in defense. Originally from Aztec, N.M., Villanueva recorded an assist along with five shots in 1175 minutes.
Huff receives the honor after holding a 3.90 GPA in their academic studies. A Psychology major, Huff played every game for the Hounds, making nine starts on the season and finishing with 822 minutes. The Henderson, Nevada native collected their first career assist this season, along with seven shots and three shots on goal.
Finally, Trejo earns the first academic award after holding 3.66 GPA, majoring in Social Work. The Albuquerque, N.M. native played in 15 games for the Greyhounds, making the starting lineup 11 times, clocking 1077 minutes. Trejo played the full 90 minutes in six times during the season, playing in multiple different positions over the season.
In order to be considered for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution and nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form.
All four of the Academic All-District honors will now move on to the ballot for CSC Academic All-America consideration. First- and second‐team Academic All‐America® honorees will be announced in December.
