Five Mile Preview: Lone Star Conference XC Championships

Greyhounds head to Midwestern State for cross country championships Saturday morning

PORTALES, N.M. – ENMU cross country is on the road for the Lone Star Conference Championships hosted by Midwestern State.

Before the Hounds take the course Saturday morning, please take a look at the Five Mile Preview:

Mile One – Eastern Recap:
The Greyhounds women's team took third at the ASU Blue and Gold Classic last week. Western New Mexico and Angelo State took the top two honors while UT Permian Basin finished in fourth. The men had two finishers taking 19th and 22nd respectively.

Mile Two – The Course:
The cross country championships will be held at the River Creek Park Golf Course. The map features two 3k loops for the women and a 2k loop added for the men before finishing near the clubhouse. ENMU ran the same course at the Mustang Derby last month.

Mile Three – Meet Notes:
The top-15 finishers will earn all-conference recognition. Two LSC women's teams are ranked – No. 8 DBU and No. 26 WTAMU. The men's race will begin at 8:30 a.m. MT and the women's event will begin at 9:30 a.m. MT.

Mile Four – For the Seniors:
The final race of the season will be extra special for three ENMU seniors. Kaylyn De La Rosa, Lethabo Seema, and Devis Cheruiyot will be running their final races for Eastern New Mexico. All three have helped Eastern accomplish great things on and off the course, including a first place finish at the Highlands XC Jam for the women.

Mile Five – Familiar Course:
Four women ran at the Mustang Derby for ENMU, including Marta Pascoa who finished the race in third among 101 runners. She finished the 5k in 18:43 just 11.5 seconds behind Gracey Lovato from Western New Mexico. De La Rosa finished in 33rd for the Hounds in the same race finishing in 20:45.7.
