Track & Field Adds To Recruiting Class With Seven Additions

Ethan Woodrome, Luis Holguin, Alex Johnson, Alex Williams, Jude Murray, Timothy Fredrick, and Steve Taylor all Join The Program

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach, Josh Harden, has announced six more additions to the 2022 recruiting class for the Track & Field program. Luis Holguin and Ethan Woodrome join the distance runners, with both student-athletes competing with the cross-country program. Jude Murray, Alex Johnson, Timothy Fredrick, and Steve Taylor II will add depth to the sprinters, while Alex Williams will compete in the javelin for the Greyhounds.

"I'm extremely excited about this class that we have put together on both the men's and women's side. We know the work is just beginning, but we feel like this 2022 class has great foundational pieces, and not just because they are good athletes, but we believe they are high character students as well," said Harden.

Woodrome and Holguin have already been training with the ENMU Cross Country program ahead of the season and will also contribute to the distance group for the track & field program. Woodrome comes to Portales from Barton Community College, one of the top junior college programs, and holds a personal best of 4:37.93 in the 1500m and 29:46.4 for the 8K. Holguin joins Eastern after running for McMurray University. As part of the competitive DIII program, Holguin has posted career best of 4:32.02 in the 1500m and 28:59.90 in the 8K.

"This men's team has an opportunity to make some waves in the conference in certain event areas right away, we have a cast of students who came to ENMU with a lot of experience and are hungry to make a name for this program. This year's class is very aware of the rich track and field / cross country history of our program, and they are eager to make their mark," said Harden.

Murray, Johnson, and Fredrick will join the sprints team. Murray hails from Nassau, Bahamas, coming to New Mexico from Iowa Western. Murray's best marks include: 6.88 (60m), 10.79 (100m), and 21.89 (200m). Joining from Harding University, Johnson brings versatility to compete in several events. The Spanish Town, Jamaica native has competed in the 60m (7.02), 100m (10.55), 200m (21.83), 300m (35.47), and 400m (50.97). Fredrick stays in the Land of Enchantment after joining from New Mexico Junior College. Last season, the Trinidad and Tobago native posted seasons best in the 60m dash (6.93), 100m (21.37), and 200m (21.37). Steve Taylor comes into the program from San Joaquin Delta College after posting a personal best in the 100 meters (10.52) and 200 meter dash (22.10). Williams joins the throws team and will compete in the LSC, having thrown a personal best 61.94 at Alcorn State University.

"Our staff is truly excited about the direction our program is headed and we are looking forward to transitioning Eastern into a well-rounded team," said Harden.
