PORTALES, N.M. – Coming off a 1-0-1 weekend in the Show-Me-State, Eastern New Mexico men's soccer heads north for the program's first matchup with South Dakota Mines and a weekday matchup with Adams State. Before the Greyhounds play Sunday night, take a look at the Pitch Preview:
First Win – ENMU snagged their first win of the 2022 campaign over Missouri S&T. The 4-0 decision came from four different goal scorers for the Hounds and a pair of saves from starting keeper
Paul Waschkau. Forward
Alexandre Meres appeared in his first games for the Hounds over the last week and came up with one goal and an assist against the Miners.
New and Old Faces – The Greyhounds square off against South Dakota Mines for the first time in school history. The Hardrockers were picked to finish 10
th in the RMAC preseason poll, while the Grizzlies are expected to finish one spot below SDM in 11
th in the final standings. ENMU trails the overall series with ASU, 3-1.
Shoot Shoot Shoot – Eastern has attempted 33 shots on goal and 57 total shots over the first four games of the season. ENMU is also one of the top five teams in the Lone Star Conference with 2.25 goals per game. The program has yet to be shutout in a match in 2022.
Ole' Oliva –
Jaime Oliva is second on the team with three points over the first four games. The juinor forward scored a goal and added an assist in the Hounds 4-0 victory over the Miners. The Spain native has attempted 13 shots and has played at least 54 minutes per game.
Keeper Trio – Three different Hounds (Waschkau,
Jesper Slystad, and
Miguel Pedroza) have started a game in goal for the team. Waschkau leads the group with 239:12 in playing time and 13 saves over three appearances. The freshman from Germany is ranked in the top five among other keepers in the LSC in several categories, including saves, GAA%, and SV%.
