FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Senior thrower
Tamia Smith broke an eight-year old record set by Jenae' Wolfram in 2015. Smith's final throw in a set of five went 13.38 meters, nearly half a meter further than the previous indoor record.
"T (
Tamia Smith) is one of our leaders. She is a hard worker and buys into what we are trying to do. It's exciting for us and for her to get the program record," said head coach
Joshua Harden. "And it came off a series that did not start off pretty. She was able to mentally prepare herself for that moment and break the record."
The impressive performance is not her only one she has done during the indoor season. Over her career, she has posted four of the top six marks of all time in ENMU history.
On top of the indoor record, she also owns the outdoor record with a throw of 13.27m at the 2021 LSC Outdoor Championships.
Smith also competed in the weight throw where she posted a result of 13.9 meters with her fourth attempt.
Ashlynn Evans recorded a 4.96 meter long jump Friday night. The mark was .39 meters shy of earning her the fifth-best mark in program history.
John Magee was the only person to compete in the men's 200m for Easter. He finished the race in 23.42 seconds. He also posted a 7.23 second time in the 60m.
Another notable performance came from
Jaliyah Denny who ran the women's 60m race in 7.94 seconds.
Freshman
Mahault Lebrun ran the women's 400m in 1:01.55 and her teammate
Savannah Romero finished just behind her in 1:06.41.
"Tonight was a learning experience for us. We also set a benchmark to see where we are at fitness wise," said Harden. "We have a lot of new faces in program and this was a good start to get great experience against high level competition."
