PORTALES, N.M. – A pair of Eastern New Mexico Men's Soccer student-athletes have been called up to the U-21 Malta Squad for the upcoming UEFA Under-21 European Championships qualifying round, in an announcement by the Malta Football Association Sunday morning.

Daniel Letherby and Hugo Sacco were both selected to join the 29-player squad picked by Under-21 Maltese National Team Coach Ivan Woods. Malta's U-21 squad continue their journey in European Qualification for the UEFA Under-21 Championships. Malta will face Belgium on October 13, at home with their final match of the international window being on the road facing Scotland on October 17. Currently, Malta sits at the bottom of Group B along with Belgium, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Scotland, and Spain also in the group.
 
Both Sacco and Letherby played for Malta at the U-19 UEFA Championships over the summer, hosted by Malta. Sacco received a call up during the first international window where he played both games for Malta in net during a pair of losses against Spain and Hungary. Letherby receives their first call-up to the under-21 setup for Malta.

The UEFA Under-21 Championships are currently in the qualifying stages, leading to the finals held in 2025 in Slovakia. 52 teams have been drawn in nine groups: seven groups of six teams and two groups of five, as part of the group stage. The nine group winners will advance to the final directly along with the three best second place teams. The remaining second place teams will advance to a playoff, where three more teams will qualify for the finals.
