LUBBOCK, Texas – ENMU women's and men's indoor track and field completed the regular season portion of indoor meets in 2023 at the Jarvis Scott Open at Texas Tech.
"I think we had a great meet," said head coach
Joshua Harden after the meet. "We had some solid performances and it gave us a great opportunity to compete at the same facility conference will be held at."
Several Greyhounds marked personal best times with four earning marks in ENMU record books.
The 60m on the women's side was highlighted with the trio of
Jaliyah Denny (8.00),
Ashlynn Evans (8.02), and
Malia Sanchez (8.43).
Mahault Lebrun ran a personal best 26.67 in the 200m. Her teammates were not far behind with times of 26.70 (
Kiara Cox), 27.50 (
Meghan Rodriguez), and 29.70 (
Malia Sanchez).
Lebrun sat at the minute make again in the 400m. She finished the race in 1:00.43. Rodriguez completed in 1:02.46 and
Savannah Romero posted a time of 1:04.92.
Kaylyn De La Rosa posted a personal top time in the 600y finishing in 1:34.43. In the 800m,
Lauren Griego clocked in at 2:47.18.
One of the best performances of the week came from
Ashlynn Evans who completed a jump of 5.59m (18' 4.25"). Her effort ranks her second in program history in indoors.
Tamia Smith continued to excel in the shot put as she threw 13.09m (42' 11.5") to push her mark to third all-time. The senior now owns the top-four marks among ENMU throwers with all four coming during the 2023 season. She threw 13.24m (43' 5.25") in the weight to take eleventh in the "B" section of the meet.
The men's side earned a stellar performance from
Timothy Frederick in the 60m as he ran in 6.86 during the qualifying rounds and followed it up with a 6.80 in the preliminaries to hold the second best result in program history. Three of his teammates also competed in the event –
John Magee (7.23),
Josh Bachechi (7.43), and
Jesse Woodruff (8.54).
Magee was the only Greyhound to compete in the 200m race and he finished in 23.42 seconds.
A trio of runners competed in the 600y as
Luis Holguin (1:17.88) set a personal best and his teammates
Ethan Woodrome (1:24.47) and
Ricky Diaz (1:30.03) represented ENMU.
Devis Cheruiyot came less than a half second away from earning a spot in the top-five in the 800m as he finished in 1:56.74.
Noe Ybaben threw for the Hounds in the meet. He tossed a personal-best and grabbed the spot for fifth-best in program history with a 13.15m (43' 1.75") mark. In the weight, he posted a 11.16m (36.7.5") result.
After putting together a solid weekend, ENMU looks ahead to the LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted at Texas Tech. The meet will run on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19. For more information, stay up to date on goeasternathletics.com
