Alex Williams tosses 60.14m at NCAA championships

Freshman competes at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships for first time

PUEBLO, Colo. – Freshman Alex Williams finished 17th at the 2023 NCAA DII outdoor track and field championships in the javelin throw.

"It was a good experience for being my first time," said Williams after the meet. "I want to thank everyone for their support."

On his final attempt of the afternoon, the Kingston, Jamaica native tossed 60.14m (197-4). It is his fifth meet where he has thrown at least 60 meters in 2023.

"We are happy to be in this position to compete here," said head coach Joshua Harden on the competition. "It was a great experience for him. He had a solid year and did a lot of great things."

This year, he broke the school record in the javelin throw and is already looking towards the 2023-24 track and field season.

"Alex improved a great deal this year," said assistant coach Ray Putnam who works primarily with the throws and distance crew. "He worked extremely hard in the weight room and persevered through some midseason injuries."

The championships mark the end of the competition season for Eastern New Mexico.
