PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico volleyball head coach
Sia Poyer has unveiled the 2023 schedule. The 31-game schedule is comprised of three tournaments along with 16 Lone Star Conference matches and 14 home contests.
The Greyhounds begin their season with a trip to Wichita Falls, Texas for the Midwestern State Invitational. ENMU will open the season against Western Colorado and Southwestern Oklahoma State (Sept. 1) and end the weekend against West Alabama and Central Oklahoma (Sept. 2). The Greyhounds will meet West Alabama for the first time in program history.
Eastern head to its second tournament in Odessa, Texas, for the Dr. Steve Aicinena "Iceman" Invitational hosted by UT Permian Basin. ENMU opens against Sul Ross State and then will play host UTPB (Sept. 8). The Greyhounds will matchup with Minnesota Crookston and Southwest (N.M.) on Sept. 9. The Greyhounds meet Minnesota Crookston for the first time in program history, while the meeting with Southwest (N.M.) will be the first of three meetings during the 2023 season.
For the first time since 2009, ENMU will host a multi-team tournament as the LSC Crossover will bring Midwestern State, Cameron, St. Edward's, and Western New Mexico to Portales. The three-day (Sept. 14-16) crossover will feature 10 total non-conference matches between the five programs, with ENMU featuring in four matches. Eastern will take on Cameron and Western New Mexico on Sept. 14, face St. Edward's on Sept. 15, and close out the crossover against Midwestern State on Sept. 16.
Before diving into LSC play, the Greyhounds will face Southwest (N.M) in a non-conference match held in Hobbs, N.M. (Sept. 18). Eastern officially start conference play on the road heading to Oklahoma Christian to begin the season (Sept. 22). ENMU ends the road trip at UAFS (Sept. 23), facing the Lions for the first time in Fort Smith in the series history.
After returning from Arkansas, the Greyhounds will face off against UT Tyler for their LSC home opener on Sept. 29
th. The next day, ENMU will play DBU as its homecoming match. To start the month of October, Eastern hit the road to begin a four game road trip. A trip to Denton, Texas to play Texas Woman's (Oct. 4), before traveling to San Antonio to play the Rattlers of St. Mary's (Oct. 6). The following day, the Greyhounds will tangle with St. Edward's (Oct. 7) and conclude the road trip at Midwestern State (Oct. 11).
After the four-match road stretch, Eastern kick start an eight-match homestand against Angelo State (Oct. 13), followed by UT Permian Basin (Oct. 14). The Greyhounds continue conference play when Texas A&M International (Oct. 20) and Texas A&M – Kingsville (Oct. 21) both come to Portales to play at Greyhound Arena. ENMU then step outside of LSC play to face Southwest (N.M.) on October 23
rd. The Greyhounds will celebrate senior weekend with Cameron (Oct. 27) and West Texas A&M (Oct. 28) playing at Greyhound Arena. Eastern will close its home schedule on October 31
st with Wayland Baptist facing the Hounds on Halloween.
The final weekend of the regular season will be at on the road, heading to Lubbock Christian (Nov. 8) for the last trip to Texas in the regular season. The Greyhounds conclude the season in the Land of Enchantment, heading to Silver City to face Western New Mexico (Nov. 10).
