Greyhounds brace for four games over two days at MSU

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball prepare for a quartet of games this weekend as part of the Midwestern State Invitational. The Hounds kick start the season against Western Colorado on Friday at 8 a.m. and continue the day against Southwestern Oklahoma State at 12 p.m. The following day, ENMU will play with West Alabama for a 12 p.m. match and end the trip to Texas against (RV) Central Oklahoma at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

  • This weekend's games will be covered on the LSC Digital Network. The LSC Digital Network will now offer a single game pass for $15, a monthly pass for $30, and a yearly pass for $140.
  • The Greyhounds will play four matches this weekend in Wichita Falls, Texas, with a day pass being offered at $10 for those that head to Midwestern State. Tickets

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • Eastern New Mexico retain key individuals form the 2022 season, including LSC Conference all conference honorees Gracelyn Stubbs and Mikaela Garvin, while Getsemani Carrasco returns as the main libero for ENMU.
  • The Greyhounds lineup may be small, 14 student-athletes, but makes up for its experience with nine seniors listed on head coach Sia Poyer's squad. One junior, and a pair of sophomores and first years round out the remaining lineup for ENMU.
  • Some notably additions include Sophia Valdez, who is coming off a New Mexico 4A State Championship with Goddard HS in their final season. Halle Sanders brings Lone Star Conference experience joining from St. Edward's University after three seasons with the Hilltoppers. Darcy Dodd returns to New Mexico after helping New Mexico Military Institute reach the 2021 NJCAA National Championship match, while Sedona Stinson returns to the Land of Enchantment after one season at Seward Community College.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

  • The Mountaineers have a new look under new head coach Jordan Bruere, with 12 new additions to the team. However, Elizabeth Rupprecht is back for WCU after leading the team in digs in 2022, averaging 2.86 digs per set.
  • Southwestern Oklahoma ended 2022 with a 17-12 record, which finished in third place in the Great American Conference. A pair of key returners for the Bulldogs are Lacy Mott (355 kills, 350 digs last year) and Zoey Sparks (231 kills, 112 blocks).
  • The Greyhounds will meet the Tigers for the first time in program history. The Gulf South Conference member finished 6-25 last season and returns key hitter Ally Craig (182 kills in 2022).
  • Central Oklahoma has turned some heads to begin the season, receiving votes in the preseason AVCA national poll. The Bronchos turned in a record of 24-7 last season but were knocked out of the opening round of the MIAA Tournament to end the season. All-American selection Jaedynn Evans paces the team defensively, leading not only the team but the nation in digs and digs per set in 2022 (775 and 6.62, respectively).
