Pitch Preview - MSOC: South Dakota Mines

ENMU played thier first game of the season in front of a home crowd on Saturday

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Men's Soccer play its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 16th at Greyhound Stadium. ENMU will entertain South Dakota Mines at 5 p.m. on to begin its home schedule.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • Last time out the Greyhounds produced a 3-3 draw with Westminster (Utah), followed by a 4-1 defeat against Colorado Mesa. Ignacio Lopez netted once in both games, while Giani Mascarel and Matteo Azambuja also scored against Westminster. Nick Huenig and Abraham Lopez both recorded assists during the draw with the Griffins.
  • Mascarel is the team's leader in points (6) and goals (3), scoring on just four shots on goal this season. Both I. Lopez and Azambuja both have a pair of goals this season, while five different Hounds have an assist. Paul Waschkau has played every match this season in net, making nine saves so far this season.
  • The Greyhounds offense is averaging are averaging 11.5 shots per game with ENMU firing 25 shots on goal this season. ENMU is in the top five among LSC teams in shots (46, 4th), points (23, 3rd), goals (9, 3rd), and assists (4, 4th).

SCOUTING SOUTH DAKOTA MINES

  • The Hardrockers faced two losses in their last week of action, falling MSU-Billings 3-0 and dropping a 2-1 contest against Texas A&M International. South Dakota Mines are still in search for their first win, holding an 0-4 record. SDSM will play fellow Lone Star Conference member Lubbock Christian on Thursday, Sept. 14, before playing the Greyhounds.  
  • Will Mauritsen and Parker Yocom each have a goal this season, while Mauritsen has an assist to their name. Yocom leads the team with five shots and two shots on target. Zach Peroff has played all but two minutes this season for South Dakota Mines in defense. In net, Daniel Freitas and Kole Villescas have each started two matches, with Freitas playing in all four games and making 11 saves.
  • The Rockers have 32 shots this season (8.0 shots per game), with 11 shots on goal. South Dakota Mines has tested goalkeepers more frequently from their last two matches, finding eight shots on goal last week, compared to the three shots on goal in their first two games.
