Pitch Preview - MSOC: DBU and Texas A&M International

ENMU continues season with non-conference clashes with LSC opponents

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Men's Soccer prepares for a pair of non-conference matches against Lone Star Conference (LSC) opponents. First, ENMU travels to Dallas to face the Patriots of DBU on Wed. Sept. 20, with kickoff slated for 6 p.m. (MST). Then, the Greyhounds come back home to Portales as they host Texas A&M International on Sat. Sept. 23, with a 7 p.m. start time.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • Eastern New Mexico look to rebound after a tough 1-0 home defeat to South Dakota Mines. ENMU out-shot the Hardrockers 18-4, but SDM capitalized on their few opportunities to beat the Greyhounds. Overall, ENMU stands at 1-3-1 overall.
  • The Greyhounds have scored nine goals this season, which is 5th in the LSC, while finding 12.8 shots per game, 4th in the LSC. When shooting, 50% of the Greyhounds attempts are going on goal. Defensively, opposing teams have scored 12 goals over five games this season, allowing 10.0 shots per game.
  • Giani Mascarel leads the Greyhounds in scoring, with a trio of goals, Ignacio Lopez and Matteo Azambuja both have two goals each. Lopez paces the Greyhounds with 14 shots (4th in LSC) and five shots on goal. In goal, Paul Waschkau and Catalin Nastuta have both played this season, with Nastuta playing in the most recent match. Nastuta made three saves in their one appearance, while Waschkau makes 2.25 saves per game in the opening four matches.

SCOUTING DBU

  • The Patriots enter the mid-week match with a record of 3-2 following a 3-0 shutout victory over Ouachita Baptist. DBU smashed the Tigers on shots (28-6) and shots on goal (10-2).
  • DBU so far this season have scored 10 times, along with seven assists on the scoresheet. Their 10.8 shots per game reach the target 40% of the time. The Patriot's defense has conceded eight times, holding a pair of shutouts.
  • Peyton Voelker and Hunter Dierlam have both hit three goals this season, in their opening five games, while Ethan Unger leads the group in assists with two. In addition to being the leading scorer, Voelker leads the team in both shots (13) and shots on goal (7). Alexander Knepper has had a fine start to the season in net, holding a goal against average of just 1.60, while making 3.60 saves per game (3rd best in the LSC).

SCOUTING TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL

  • Texas A&M International will start the week at home against St. Edward's, playing the Hilltoppers on Wednesday, Sept. 20. The Dustdevils have won three straight games after losing their first two bouts, standing a 3-2 overall.
  • Following an 11-0 win over Division III Sul Ross State, Texas A&M International are the top offensive team in the nation with 22 goals and 23 assists in just five games. A +14-goal differential leads the nation, along with 4.40 goals per game, 4.60 assists per game, and 13.4 points per game all being first in Division II. TAMIU also leads the conference in shots per game (17.2 shots per game). On defense, the Dustdevils have allowed eight goals and are conceding 7.6 shots per game, with 10 saves on the season.
  • Johan Portales leads the team 15 points this season (six goals and three assists), while Lassana Diakite has scored six goals with a pair of assists, and Jordan Mase adds four goals and three assists. Jose Bolado has played the majority of the minutes in goal for TAMIU, making 10 saves in five games this season.
