RICHARDSON, Texas – After reaching the postseason during the 2023 season, Eastern New Mexico Baseball has been selected in the Lone Star Conference 2024 Baseball Preseason Poll announced on Tuesday afternoon. The Greyhounds were selected to finish 9
th, earning 188 points.
Coming in at the top spot is reigning national champions Angelo State, receiving 38 first place votes and 503 total points. Finishing runner-up in the poll, UT Tyler garnered one first place vote with 450 points. St. Edward's conclude the top-three with 396 points.
Lubbock Christian sits in 4
th place with 388 points, while West Texas A&M wraps up the top-five with 379 points.
The conference also announced two preseason awards winners. Jacob Guerrero and Braxton Pearson of Angelo State were selected as Preseason Player of the Year and Preseason Pitcher of the Year, respectively.Â
Eastern had an incredible 2023 season, finishing 8
th in Lone Star Conference play and advancing to the LSC Postseason (23-28, 21-26). During the season, head coach
Riley Price led the Greyhounds to their best conference win total, along with their highest win total since 2018. Last year's campaign was also the first time the Greyhounds advanced to postseason play during the
Riley Price era.
This season, Eastern have 50 contests on the schedule, 48 of which are LSC contests and two non-conference games. The Greyhounds will have 26 games at Greyhound Baseball Field, with six four-game conference series weekends and two single day games.
The Greyhounds begin the 2024 season by welcoming Angelo State, February 2-4. Opening day will feature a nine-inning game on Friday, Feb. 2, beginning at 2 p.m. Both teams will play a seven-inning double header on Saturday, Feb. 3, with the first game scheduled to start at 2 p.m. The series final will be Sunday, Feb. 4, for a nine-inning game with first pitch at 1 p.m.
