BSB Four Bases: Texas A&M International

Eastern New Mexico baseball travels to Laredo for final series of the 2026 season

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico baseball is set for the final road trip of the 2026 season. Before ENMU faces Texas A&M International in Laredo, please take a look at the Four Bases Preview:

First Base – Weekend Recap: Eastern New Mexico dropped four contests to Angelo State at home last weekend. ASU had strong offensive performances as they scored 74 runs over a four game stretch. The first game of the series provided offensive highlights for both teams as the Rams pulled ahead of the Greyhounds, 26-17. All nine Angelo State starters had multi-hit efforts in the win, including five hits from both Chase Pendley and Austin Beck. ENMU had five players with multi-hit outings, including Eiji Sawamura and Logan Martin with three hits each. You would think it was a "bullpen" day for ASU as they used eight different pitchers in the contest with the longest outing going 2.2 innings. ENMU had five pitchers on the mound throughout the night and Maddux Edmonson had the longest appearance with three innings thrown. Saturday's contests did not fare well for Eastern as they lost by 15+ runs in both doubleheaders. The getaway game saw ASU take a 9-4 win.

Second Base – 50 Hit Club: Three Greyhounds have joined the 50 hit club prior to the final series of the year. Two other Hounds are three hits away from joining the same marks. If they get four players with 50+ hits, ENMU will make it four-straight years with that many earning the mark. Eiji Sawamura leads with 64 hits and a .362 batting average. Both Logan Martin and Cole Curtis have 50 hits. Gabriel Watson and Adrien Martin boast 47 total hits apiece. Last Sunday, Sawamura snapped a season-high nine-game hitting streak. ENMU has a different leader for all four hit types. The singles leader is Sawamura (53), doubles leader is A. Martin (12), triples leader is Curtis (5), and homers leader is Watson (10).

Third Base – Greyhound Debuts: Jayden Jameson and Eli Edmiston had the opportunity to pitch for the first time in their collegiate careers last weekend. Jameson went two innings and gave up one hit and two walks, while striking out three batters. Edmiston threw two innings and allowed three hits and a hit batter with three strikeouts. A handful of other Greyhounds came off the bench for the program. Carlos Torres Jr. had his first collegiate hit in Saturday's game versus ASU. He also was responsible for both runs scored in the contest. Gunner Ferguson started all four games in a series for the first time this season. The first year Hound had four hits and two runs against the Rams.

Home – Dust 'Em: Texas A&M International goes into the weekend with a 16-30 record. They have won series against UT Permian Basin and Sul Ross State this season. TAMIU holds a 10-13 mark at home. The last time they lost a series at home came against UT Dallas Mar. 27-29 as they fell in four-straight contests. Five different players hit above the .300 mark for the program, including team leader Ciro Benavides who sports a .393 average. He has 13 doubles, three triples, and two homers along with 32 RBI's. Eddie Saenz has started 45 games for the Dustdevils and has a .392 average with a team-high 62 hits, 18 doubles, and eight homers. Three pitchers have thrown 40+ innings for the team. William Boucher holds a 6.99 ERA with 47.2 innings thrown. One area where he struggles is that he allows opponents to hit with a .341 clip. Dylan Kinney has gone 42.1 innings with a 6.38 ERA. He has struck out 20 batters and leads the team with six wild pitches. The program is led by Ruben Rodriguez who is in his second season as the head coach after serving as an assistant at the beginning of the 2022 campaign. He played collegiately at Paris Junior College, Southwestern Oklahoma State, and Tarleton State.
