Eastern travels to Alpine, Texas to face Sul Ross State in a big conference road tilt

PORTALES, N.M. – With just four games remaining in the regular season, Eastern New Mexico Men's Soccer continue to push for qualifications for the Lone Star Conference Tournament, going on the road to face conference newcomers Sul Ross State this weekend. Saturday's kickoff (Oct. 26) is expected for 2:30 p.m. (MST) / 3:30 p.m. (CST) at Lobo Soccer Field.

  • The game will be broadcast on FloSports. FloSports is the central location to watch Lone Star Conference live and on-demand events, offering a $14.99 per month pass or $99.99 per year pass. SERIES INSIGHT

  • ENMU and SRSU will face each other for just the second time in program history, and the first time as conference opponents.
  • Both teams played each other earlier in the season, with the Greyhounds coming away with a 2-0 home victory over the Lobos.
  • After absorbing early pressure from the Lobos, Eastern opened the scoring through Pablo Nodar in the 31st minute. Alexandre Meres played Nodar through on goal to begin the scoring in the first half. Arthur Macri sealed the match in the second half with a strike in the 66th minute.
  • Defensively, Catalin Nastuta made four saves in the shutout win over the Lobos. Ludwig Scherer played their first game of the season during the match, and helped the defense keep a clean sheet.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • ENMU dropped their first game in four matches after falling to DBU 1-0 at home. Overall, the Greyhounds have a 4-4-5 record, with a 2-2-2 overall conference record. Entering the weekend, Eastern is tied for 5th place in the conference standings with eight points. Lubbock Christian (eight points), Oklahoma Christian (seven points), and UT Tyler (seven points) all play this weekend.
  • Ben Sauerländer and Nodar lead ENMU with three goals each. Ben Sauerländer also is joint best for assists (two), holding a team high eight points. Teddy McIntyre and Kevin Nunez both have two assists this season for the offense. Nick Huenig leads the team with 15 shots.
  • Milo Paci leads the Greyhounds in goalkeeping statistics, holding a 3-3-3 record in goal. Playing every conference game this season, Paci has 1.00 goals against average this season, with a 0.780 save percentage.
  • Eastern is posting 7.4 shots per match, scoring on 15% of those opportunities. Eastern has gathered 32 yellow cards this season, committing 154 fouls.

SCOUTING THE LOBOS

  • In their first season as a Division II program, Sul Ross State have held up against LSC foes with a 6-7 standing, and a 2-4 conference record. Recently, Sul Ross State faced top of the conference St. Mary's, falling 3-0 on the road.
  • Zachary Trimming leads the line for the Lobos, scoring four goals this season, including three of the Lobos' last five goals. Carlos Gonzalez makes an important contribution with three goals and two assists, while Mario Hurtado adds a team-best two assists. Lewis Coates paces the squad with 25 shots this season, with a team high 16 shots on goal.
  • In goal, Benjamin Aviles has played in 12 of the 13 games this season with 11 starts. Aviles has collected 54 saves, with a 5-5 record, and a .740 save percentage.
