PITTSBURG, KAN. – Eastern New Mexico women's track and field got off to a quick start at the season opening meet.
"Devyn (Ericksen) set the tone for our women," said head coach
Joshua Harden on the freshman's start to the meet and its importance for the team's performance today. "They carried it throughout the day."
Devyn Ericksen began her Greyhound career with a strong race in the 60m hurdles as she broke a school record. Her 9.48s time in the event is the best finish by an ENMU runner ever.
The 60m sprinters also posted notable results. Sophomore
Grizell Scarlett posted a provisional mark with a time of 7.60s and a seventh place finish. Also competing in the event was
Jodian Stewart (7.75s),
Gabriela Elizalde (7.83s),
Riley Midgett (7.88s), and
Journie Alexander (8.02s). Elizalde's and Alexander's times were personal bests.
Riley Midgett and
Ambrosia Francis also competed in the 200m. Midgett (26.47s) and Francis (27.13s) both placed in the top-50 in the event.
In the 400m, ENMU was represented by
Minerva Cerda Hernandez and
Meghan Rodriguez. Cerda Hernandez posted a personal best time of 58.48s and Rodriguez nearly ran a PB with a 1:01.61.
Cerda Hernandez, Scarlett, Rodriguez, and Elizalde teamed up in the 4x400 to post a 4:01.13 time. They finished 17th among 35 teams.
Celina Thomas was the only jumper for the women's program. She posted a 11.16m (36-7.25) mark to place near the middle of the field.
Eastern New Mexico competed in two different throwing events.
Olivia Lucero made her ENMU debut with a 13.52m (44-4) in the weight throw and a 11.07m (36-3.75) mark in the shot put.
Kennedy Ulmer had a 13.04m (42-9) throw in the weight throw and a 12.05m (39-6.5) result in the shot put. In her first event as a Hound,
Catherine Green had the best shot put throw at 12.17m (39-11.25).
"I think that they came and competed well," stated Harden when asked about the women's performance in Kansas.
Eastern New Mexico women's track and field will take a break for the winter period. They will be back in action in early January 2025.
