ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Five different sprinters earned personal best times for Eastern New Mexico women's track and field this weekend at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic hosted at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
"We are headed in the right direction," said head coach
Joshua Harden after the meet. "We handled adversity really well."
The 60m saw
Jodian Stewart come 0.13 seconds away from earning an NCAA provisional mark. Her 7.78s time is her new personal record.
Riley Midgett also ran her quickest 60m at 8.03s.
Three other Greyhounds appeared in the 60m.
Grizell Scarlett came 0.03s shy of her top mark earned at the JD Martin Invitational in Norman, Oklahoma which still ranks t-12th among DII sprinters. Scarlett finished the race in Albuquerque in 7.49s.
Ambrosia Francis (8.20s) and
Malia Sanchez (8.26s) also competed.
Helena Carboo Klutsey (25.27s),
Ambrosia Francis (26.43s), and
Mariana Marquez (27.55s) had solid weekends as they each improved their personal top time in the 200m. Midgett (26.26s),
Malia Sanchez (27.90s), and
Savannah Romero (28.49s) also competed in the event.
The 400m saw strong finishes from Carboo Klutsey (59.32s),
Mahault Lebrun (1:00.62s),
Meghan Rodriguez (1:01.18s),
Alisha Hayde (1:02.93s), and
Savannah Romero (1:04.82s).
A combined team of Scarlett, Rodriguez, Carboo Klutsey, and
Minerva Cerda Hernandez earned a competitive 3:58.76s time in the 4x400 race.
Two jumpers hit marks for Eastern New Mexico this weekend.
Aeriana Langley cleared 1.56m (5-1.25) in high jump and Cerda Hernandez went over the bar in pole vault at 2.99m (9-9.75).
The throws quad finished out the weekend for the Greyhounds.
Tamia Smith nearly improved both of her top marks after doing so just one week ago. Smith tossed the shot put 13.88m (45-6.5) and the weight throw 15.21m (49-11) just over three inches away from a new record.
Finishing out in the weight throw for ENMU included
Jha'Niah Johnson (12.63m),
Samantha Medina (9.63m), and
Allysun Jones (9.39m).
Eastern New Mexico will compete next week with an expected change to the original scheduled meet. Instead of traveling to Topeka, Kan., the Hounds are slated to go back to Albuquerque for the final regular season competition of the indoor campaign.
