TUCSON, Arizona – Two Eastern New Mexico women's track and field student-athletes earned NCAA DII provisional marks at the 2024 Willie Williams Classic.
"It's great to see hard work be put on paper this early in the outdoor season," said head coach
Joshua Harden after the competition. "This was a great meet for us as we move to compete at home for the first time since 2018."
In the short sprints,
Grizell Scarlett snagged the third fastest time in the nation in the 100m dash. The freshman finished the event in 11.52s.
The other Greyhound to hit a provisional mark was
Tamia Smith. The graduate student ranks ninth in the nation with a 14.13m (4-4.25) toss. She will be within the top-five if she improves by one foot.
"The team did great this weekend. We were ready to compete," said Smith after the meet. "I am just ready to keep climbing. My goal is nationals and I can't wait to see how this season goes."
Both Smith and Scarlett earned personal best marks in those respective events. Four additional personal best marks were hit by the women's program.
