PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico women's track and field competed at home for the first time since 2019 and made most of the outing with ten personal top marks.
"They did well. They came in and continue to get better," said head coach
Joshua Harden on the program after the meet. "They are willing to learn. It was great to see and I am happy that we had something here for them and we are ready to build upon it."
The highlight of the day came from the 100m as all five Greyhounds earned PB's in the event. Those include
Helena Carboo-Klutsey (12.12s),
Riley Midgett (12.30s),
Ambrosia Francis (12.31s),
Malia Sanchez (12.64s), and
Meghan Rodriguez (12.96s).
"I really enjoyed having a home meet," said Rodriguez after the meet. "I feel like our team was really good at supporting each other today."
Minerva Cerda Hernandez earned a top mark in the 200m at 26.40s. No results from the second heat of the 200m are available at the time. The Hounds waiting for their final time are
Savannah Romero,
Meghan Rodriguez,
Mariana Marquez, and
Malia Sanchez.
Results are also being waited on for the women's 4x400 and the hammer throw.
The javelin was won by
Kennedy Ulmer with her personal best throw of 40.61m (133-3). Her teammate, freshman
Deziree Bosquez took second with a toss of 38.25m (125-6).
Three other personal best marks were met in the discus. Those came from
Kennedy Ulmer (43.86m (43-11)),
Samantha Medina (38.06m (124-10)), and
Allysun Jones (30.97m (101-7)). Also competing in the event was
Jha'Niah Johnson (36.87m (120-11)) who took third.
Tamia Smith won the shot put – her fifth event victory in her collegiate career. She threw 13.77m (45-2.25).
Minerva Cerda-Hernandez won the pole vault with a clearance of 3.23m (10-7). First year Greyhound,
Aeriana Langley, held a 1.53m (5-0.25) result in the high jump to win medalist honors.
Senior
Savannah Romero took fourth in the 400m with a time of 1:03.98.
One of the better races to watch was the 4x100. An evenly matched race put two different ENMU groupings in the mix. Team A comprised of
Malia Sanchez,
Riley Midgett,
Helena Carboo-Klutsey, and
Jodian Stewart finished ahead ay 47.13s. Just behind at 47.47s was
Meghan Rodriguez,
Ambrosia Francis, Minerva Cerda-Hernandez, and
Grizell Scarlett.
The Hounds will now set their eyes towards the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi hosted by West Texas A&M. The meet will run April 5-6.
