Greyhound women's track and field posts a pair of new NCAA DII provisional marks

Kennedy Ulmer and 4x100 team have a breakout meet in Norman, Okla.

NORMAN, Okla. – Eastern New Mexico women's track and field went up against some of the best track and field programs in the plains region as they competed at the John Jacobs Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma.

Representing ENMU in a tough 100m field was Ambrosia Francis (12.62s), Riley Midgett (12.65s), and Malia Sanchez (13.04s). It was a packed group of runners in the 200m as Grizell Scarlett (24.74s), Helena Carboo-Klutsey (25.48s), Riley Midgett (26.48s), Mariana Marquez (28.24s), and Meghan Rodriguez (28.39s) competed in the event.

Rodriguez posted a season best 1:01.27 in the 400m and her teammate Marquez was just behind her at 1:04.05.

One of the highlights of the weekend came from the 4x100. The team of Jodian Stewart, Riley Midgett, Helena Carboo-Klutsey, and Grizell Scarlett finished the relay in a 46.57s NCAA DII provisional time. The mark ranks third among all Lone Star Conference teams.

Several Hounds appeared in throws events for ENMU. Kennedy Ulmer led the way in discus with her first throw of the day going 42.22m (138-6). Also competing was Jha'Niah Johnson (38.28m (125-7)) and Samantha Medina (36.08m (118-4)).

Tamia Smith was the only Greyhound in the shot put and hammer throw. In the shot, she tossed 13.76m (45-1.75) to finish 13th out of 24 throwers. Smith followed the performance with a 44.24m (125-1) throw to take 14th among 26.

Ulmer posted one of the best performances of the weekend as she earned an NCAA DII provisional throw in the javelin. On her final throw of the day, she tossed 44.30m (145-4) to take sixth in the event and to raise the bar on her slot as the best javelin thrower in the LSC.

"Competing this weekend was very exciting for me because I had the opportunity to go compete against DI competitors and see how far my progress has come," said Ulmer on the chance to compete in Norman this weekend. "The facility was just amazing. Having my teammates rally around me to support me was the cherry on top. I'm very happy with my performance this weekend because I was able to push myself and improve despite being nervous."

Jodian Stewart closed out the competition for ENMU as she took fifth out of 28 with her third jump of the afternoon going 5.82m (19-1.25).

The program will compete in the Duke City next weekend at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open. The two day event begins Friday, April 19 on the campus of the University of New Mexico.
