LUBBOCK, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Baseball tallied five conference awards, including a program record three gold gloves at the 2024 Lone Star Conference Baseball Awards Banquet, held on the campus of Lubbock Christian, on Wednesday evening.
Luciano Terilli earned All-LSC Second Team honors at the utility position, while starting pitcher
Gavin Perry was awarded the all-conference third team. Additionally, three Greyhounds earned gold gloves:
Beau Preston at first base,
Demetrio Archuleta at second base, and
Tucker Gideon as an outfielder. The trio is the first players to win a gold glove in the
Riley Price era.
Terilli was a key feature in Greyhounds offense and pitching staff. In the batter's box, Terilli provided a team best .363 batting average playing all 50 games for the Greyhounds. The Dallas, Texas native also led the team with 65 hits, 36 walks, and seven sacrifice flies, while their 45 runs scored, and 43 RBIs finished second on the team. In addition to being the everyday left fielder for Greyhounds, Terilli tossed 16.0 innings on the mound during the season, recording three saves, finishing with a record of 1-1 and 15 strikeouts (three saves is positioned top-10 in the conference). Leading the Greyhounds pitching staff, Perry was recognized to the All-LSC Third Team. The ace of the Greyhounds staff racked up a team best seven wins, holding batters to a .274 batting average, tossing 72.0 innings, with 66 strikeouts and 5.13 ERA (all top-10 marks in the LSC). His totals for wins and strikeouts land in the top-10 for program history for a single season.
Defensively, the Greyhounds led the Gold Glove selections with three after the program had received just one honoree prior to this evening (Endy Villalona, SS, 2017). Gideon provided a perfect fielding percentage for the Greyhounds in the outfield, posting 118 putouts and three assists from center field. Preston grabbed their gold glove following 0.994 fielding percentage and 313 putouts at first base (5
th most in LSC). The junior from McKinney, Texas made just two errors in the field, while being part of 29 double plays. Archuleta rounds out the gold glove honorees, earning the nod at second base with 0.977 fielding percentage. Finishing with 59 putouts and 67 assists, the Farmington, N.M. native turned 15 double plays with just three errors.
