PORTALES, N.M. –
Eastern New Mexico men's and women's track and field continues the 2024-25 season with a trip to the Corky Classic in the Lone Star state. Before the Hounds head to the meet, please take a look at the 4x4 Preview:
1x4 – Provisional Secured: Freshman
Strahinja Radakovic earned an NCAA DII indoor provisional mark in the 60m hurdles during last week's Friday Night Axe 'Em Open. Radakovic finished fourth in the event crossing the line in 8.04s. After altitude adjustments, his time converts to 8.08s in the performance list ranking him in the top 13 among all DII competitors. He is not the only Hound with a provisional mark this season. Sophomore
Grizell Scarlett opened the 2024-25 season at the Crimson and Gold Invitational where she completed the race in 7.60s. Scarlett currently sits in the top 30 of all runners in the division.
2x4 – New Best Times: The men's program saw three finishers earn personal best times in the 60m hurdles. The aforementioned Radakovic (8.04s),
Hemon Joseph (8.42s), and
Jonathon Pipes (8.67s) were among those with personal records. The 400m was a successful event for the men's team as
Kyler Joe (48.98s) and
Elijah Davis (50.08s) had their best times ever in the race.
Kooper Ellis has now had back-to-back meets with a personal best toss in the weight throw. His teammate
Noe Ybaben Burciaga had his best indoor shot put throw with a 13.98m (45-10.5) mark during the meet. Four women had best marks in the weight throw. Those include
Jha'Niah Johnson (14.36m - 47-1.5),
Kennedy Ulmer (13.48m - 44-2.75),
Leslie Jaquez (13.19m - 43-3.25), and
Allysun Jones (11.06m - 36-3.5).
Celina Thomas had two personal best results at the meet. She earned those marks in the 60m (8.13s) and triple jump (11.46m - 37-7.25). Freshman
Devyn Ericksen broke her own school record in the 60m hurdles with a 9.30s time. Lastly,
Kennedy Ulmer had her best indoor shot put (13.48m - 44-2.75) throw of her career.
3x4 – Hounds Entries: The men's team has 16 entries for this weekend's meet while the women's program has ten entries. Both sides will have runners in the 60m, 200m, 400m, 60m hurdles, and 4x400 and they will have participants in the long jump. The men's side will include entries in the 800m with
Brian Norton and
Thomas Aerdts representing ENMU in the mid-distance event. Most events for Eastern New Mexico are on Friday with a handful to be done on Saturday. The entries going on Friday include the 60m, 400m, 800m, 60m hurdles, and long jump. The largest number of entries in a single event for the men is four in both the 60m hurdles and 400m. The largest number in a single event for the women is three participating in the 60m.
4x4 – National Exposure: The Corky Classic will be streamed on ESPN+. The first events with ENMU representatives are set for 4 p.m. CT with the 60m hurdles and the long jump. The hurdles will follow with the 60m and finals for both of those events. Eastern New Mexico will close the night with the 400m set to begin at 7 p.m. CT. Live results will also be provided by PT Timing. Some schools competing in the Corky Classic this weekend include Arizona, Florida, North Carolina A&T, South Carolina, and Kentucky.
