ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Another school record was broken by Eastern New Mexico women's track and field this weekend at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico.
The new indoor pole vault record belongs to sophomore
Minerva Cerda Hernandez who vaulted 3.37m (11-0.75) on her first try at the mark. She opened the meet at 3.07m, which she missed on her first attempt, but cleared with ease on the next. On her next height, 3.22m, she just made it over the bar as her foot graced the bar at the top. Those two clearances set her up for the record breaking vault.
"I feel proud of that. It's a big accomplishment since I am only a sophomore," said
Minerva Cerda Hernandez on breaking the record. "We did our best and overall, I think we did great."
Cerda Hernandez continued to compliment her teammates on the work they have been putting in to prepare for the season.
