RICHARDSON, Texas – Eastern New Mexico's Chama El-Hadiri is now a two-time Lone Star Conference freshman of the week. The first year Greyhound earned the recognition after boasting the top time among freshman in the LSC at the DBU Old Glory Gallop.
"(Chama) is working very hard in practice and does everything we ask," said assistant coach Keyanah Browning. "She is excited for conference, and I think she is going to do something special at that meet."
El-Hadiri ran a collegiate best 18:23 time in the 5k at the AP Ranch course in Fort Worth, Texas. She placed 26th overall and helped the Greyhounds place 18th as a team in a field of 40+ programs.
The Morocco native has competed in three meets for Eastern New Mexico this season. She placed 22nd at the Texas Tech Open earlier this season and was named LSC freshman runner of the week after that race. At the most recent meet hosted by DBU, she finished directly behind two runners from Ranger Community College and just ahead of a competitor from Midwestern State.
Saturday's competition featured 11 teams from the Lone Star Conference and El-Hadiri was the quickest freshman among those institutions in the race.
Eastern New Mexico will compete next at the LSC cross country championships in Fort Worth, Texas on October 25.
