PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico rodeo is closing out the 2025 portion of the season with a competition hosted by Clarendon College in Childress, Texas. Before the Greyhounds begin the three-day festivities, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:
Barrel One – Greyhounds Recap: Eastern New Mexico rodeo had an excellent showing at Texas Tech two weeks ago. The most recent competition saw ENMU send
Cutter Pareo,
Bowdy Neece,
Jacob Walters,
Mackinzee Dermody,
Shaeden Marr, and
Kassidy Lightfoot to the short go. Walters won the all-around title at the event and Dermody split first in the average in goat tying. The rodeo was special for both Dermody and Walters as they rodeoed for Texas Tech as undergrads before transferring to Eastern New Mexico this season. Both programs finished fourth at the competition matching the best finish for the men's team and boasting the second best finish for the women's team.
Barrel Two – In The Region: Greyhound rodeo is fourth in the Caprock region in both the men's and women's standings. Eastern New Mexico has 1,275 points in the men's division with the third place Texas Tech program with 1,605 points. The women have 645.33 points with the third place Texas Tech team with 665 points.
Jacob Walters leads the men's all-around with 855 total points with a margin of 195 points between him and second place. Two Greyhounds are in the top seven in tie down –
Cutter Pareo 4th,
Bowdy Neece 7th. Walters is second in steer wrestling and
Orran Hart is 11th in the same event. Walters is the top team roping header in the region with 470 points and a 180 point difference between second place.
Ali Terry is 12th in the region in barrels with 40 points.
Mackinzee Dermody is 14th in breakaway with 60 points and leads the region in goat tying with 395 points.
Shaeden Marr is fifth in the Caprock with 163.3 points.
Barrel Three – What To Watch: It will be a light start for Eastern New Mexico as only six Hounds will compete in the Thursday performance round for ENMU. Two entries in team roping and two in tie down will feature student-athletes from Eastern. Friday is much different with 13 entries from the program, including four breakaway ropers and three in the barrels. The final day of competition gives Eastern New Mexico nine entries in the field. Three breakaway ropers, two barrels competitors, and two teams representing in team roping will be among that esteemed group. This weekend, the rodeo will be held in Childress, Texas which is off highway 287 in between Amarillo and Wichita Falls. The indoor arena will be similar to what the Hounds saw in Lubbock just two weeks prior.
