LUBBOCK, Texas – Eastern New Mexico women's track and field posted two personal best marks this weekend at the Stan Scott Invitational in Lubbock.
"I was pleased how our women came out and competed," said head coach
Joshua Harden after the meet. "They are showing improvement because of a lot of hard work even through a heavy work load and training cycle."
Jha'Niah Johnson moved ENMU into the right direction as she began the meet with a 15.12m (49-7.25) personal best mark in the weight throw. She advanced to the finals in the event featuring several talented competitors from DI and DII institutions. Her throw ranks fifth all-time in school history.
The 60m dash was an exciting race as both Eastern New Mexico finishers came hundredths of a second away from earning personal record times.
Jodian Stewart (7.82s) and
Riley Midgett (7.89s) both competed in the event.
Gabriela Elizalde shined in the 200m with a personal top time of 25.65s. She improved nearly half a second from her previous season best mark that she ran last month in Flaggstaff. Elizalde ranks in the top 20 among all runners in the conference in the event. It is her fourth event where she ranks in the top 20 in the LSC. The others include 60m (11th), 200m (19th), 4x400 (8th), and long jump (15th).
ENMU will now take a week off from competition as they prepare for split meets in Albuquerque and Lubbock, February 14-15.
