ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Eleven Eastern New Mexico student-athletes had personal best marks at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational host by the University of New Mexico.
"Our sprints and our long jump group had a solid weekend," said head coach
Joshua Harden when asked about the meet. "Kennedy (Ulmer) had a solid day in the ring this weekend. She's making adjustments at the right time."
The meet served as a preview for ENMU as they prepare to compete at the 2025 Lone Star Conference indoor track and field championships next week in Albuquerque.
The 60m was well represented by Eastern with six entries. Sophomore
Grizell Scarlett bettered her season time with a 7.57s finish. Scarlett will look to defend her title in the event at next week's championships.
Jaliyah Denny was the only Hound of the six total entries to have a personal best run as she completed the race in 7.90s.
One of the most impressive events for Eastern New Mexico was the 200m.
Grizell Scarlett (24.66s),
Gabriela Elizalde (25.42s), and
Riley Midgett (25.45s) all had personal best times in the sprint around the brightly colored track at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Helena Carboo-Klutsey posted an indoor PB in the 400m with a 58.09s time. Freshman
Elizabeth Lujan-Towles also had a PB for ENMU in the meet as she completed the 3000m in 12:01.90.
Devyn Ericksen continues to shine in her first season with the program. The New Mexican tied her season-best mark with a 9.25s finish in the 60m hurdles.
Junior
Kennedy Ulmer had a nice meet for Eastern New Mexico as she picked up personal best throws on back-to-back days. On Friday, she had a 14.81m throw in the weight throw. She now ranks in the top eight among LSC competitors in the event. Ulmer had a similar accomplishment on Saturday in the shot put as she matched her outdoor personal best throw at 13.03m (42-9).
Ulmer's success in throws carried with her teammates in the jumps, as well.
Jerriana McWilliams continues to improve in the triple jump as she recorded a personal best 10.29m (33-9.25) leap.
Jodian Stewart moved into the top eight among long jumpers in the LSC with a 5.57m (18-3.25) leap.
"We did a good job of trying to keep us in the conference conversation in a couple of events and that was the main goal for them this weekend," said Harden when asked how the weekend prepared the team for the LSC championships. "The indoor season has seen its share of success and consistency so to be able to still continue is a positive heading into next week."
Eastern New Mexico will now set their eyes on the conference indoor championships beginning next Friday and continuing into Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
