ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's track and field had an excellent weekend at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational with seven personal best marks.
"Anytime we step into competition, the goal is to compete," said head coach
Joshua Harden when asked about the weekend. "We wanted to make sure we are sharp and prepared for this upcoming conference championship."
The 60m was a thrilling event to watch with six different Greyhounds competing in the event. Senior Steve Taylor won his heat with a blazing quick personal best time of 6.86s. He now ranks in the top eight in the event going into this weekend's conference championships. Also earning a PB was
Kyler Joe who ran sub-7.00s (6.96s) in the event.
Three Hounds competed in the 200m and two student-athletes earned personal best times.
Jamoi Jackson ran 21.71s and after altitude conversion (21.78s) he sits with the fifth fastest time in the conference. Farmington, N.M. native
John Magee had an excellent personal best run of 22.86s in the event.
Elijah Davis posted a 49.69s personal best time in the 400m. He sits in the top 30 among runners in the conference.
One of the most exciting races for ENMU was the 800m featuring a pair of Hounds.
Brian Norton won his heat by using a much-needed kick in the final 100m. The first-year transfer ran his fastest time in the event ever at 1:54.42. He ranks eighth in the conference after that run. His teammate,
Thomas Aerdts, was not far behind from winning his heat. Aerdts also had a personal best time of 1:55.45.
The 60m hurdles featured a trio of Greyhounds. Freshman
Strahinja Radakovic was one-hundredth of a second away from tying his previous best mark. Socorro, N.M. native
Braden Mounyo posted a PB of 8.50s and now sits in the top-12 among runners in the LSC.
Noe Ybaben-Burciaga did have a season-best mark in the weight throw. He moves into the top ten in the event with a 14.29m (46-10.75) mark.
"I believe this weekend moved some of our student-athletes into better standings conference-wise," remarked Harden. "We set a few personal bests and are ready for the LSC championships."
The two-day conference meet is slated for next Friday and Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
