4x4 Preview: LSC indoor track and field championships

Eastern New Mexico men's and women's track and field heads to Albuquerque for indoor LSC championships

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's and women's track and field will compete at the 2025 Lone Star Conference indoor track and field championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center Feb. 21-22. Before the Hounds begin action, please take a look at the 4x4 Preview:

1x4 – Review In ABQ: Eastern New Mexico men's track and field made the most of their visit to Albuquerque last week for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational. Two student-athletes finished in the top-five in a field of 65 runners in the 60m with several DI and DII competitors in the mix. The 800m was another impressive race to watch as both Greyhound runners finished with personal best runs. Brian Norton completed the race with a fantastic final 200m to win his heat and complete the race in 1:54.42. Thomas Aerdts also had a PB time at 1:55.45. The 60m hurdles continues to be a strong event for ENMU as three different freshmen competed for Eastern. Strahinja Radakovic nearly beat his personal-best time with a 8.05s finish. Braden Mounyo also impressed with a personal best run of 8.50s. Junior Noe Ybaben-Burciaga had a season-best 14.29m mark in the weight throw.

2x4 – Women Making Marks: Eastern New Mexico women's track and field is well-prepared for this weekend's championships after several impressive marks at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational. Grizell Scarlett bettered her season-best 60m time with a 7.57s to stay in second among conference competitors heading into this weekend's championship. Scarlett also posted a provisional mark/personal best time in the 200m indoor at 24.66s. Helena Carboo-Klutsey had an indoor best time of 58.09s in the 400m, while Elizabeth Lujan-Towles had a PB in the 3000m at 12:01.90. Devyn Ericksen tied her school record in the 60m hurdles at 9.25s in the 60m hurdles. She boasts the ninth fastest time in the conference in the event. Junior Kennedy Ulmer had a big weekend with a pair of PB's in the shot put (13.03m) and weight  throw (14.81m).

3x4 – Conference Outlook: Seven Greyhound student-athletes and one relay team sit in the top-eight among conference competitors in a combined eight different events. The Hounds within those parameters include Grizell Scarlett (60m, 200m), 4x400 (Carboo-Klutsey, Scarlett, Cerda-Hernandez, Elizalde), Minerva Cerda Hernandez (PV), Jodian Stewart (LJ), Celina Thomas (TJ), Genesis Carter (TJ), Kennedy Ulmer (SP, WT), and Jha'Niah Johnson (WT). Six men's student-athletes and a relay team are in the top-eight among competitors in a combined eight events. Those Hounds are Steve Taylor II (60m), Jamoi Jackson (200m, 400m), Brian Norton (800m), Strahinja Radakovic (60m hurdles), 4x400 (Joe, Jackson, Norton, Salaris), William Mclilly (HJ), and Hemon Joseph (LJ). Entering this week, the conference rankings on the USTFCCCA website list ENMU men as sixth in the LSC and the women as seventh in the conference. Both teams are listed in the top 15 in the region on the same website.

4x4 – Hounds In Burque: Representing the men's squad will be Steve Taylor II (60m), Nicolo Salaris (60m, 200m, 4x400), Kyler Joe (200m, 400m, 4x400, 4000mDMR), Jamoi Jackson (400m, 4x400), Elijah Davis (400m, 4x400, 4000mDMR), Brian Norton (800m, 4x400), Thomas Aerdts (800m, 4x400, 4000mDMR), Strahinja Radakovic (60m hurdles), Braden Mounyo (60m hurdles), Jonathon Pipes (60m hurdles), Alec Forney (4000mDMR), William Mclilly (HJ, LJ), Hemon Joseph (LJ, Hep), Ramon Laguana (TJ), Noe Ybaben-Burciaga (SP, WT), and Kooper Ellis (WT).
