PORTALES, N.M. – The 2025 outdoor track and field season begins tomorrow as Eastern New Mexico splits up the squad to compete at the Willie Williams Classic in Arizona and the West Texas A&M Relays in Texas. Before the two competitions, please take a look at the 4x4 Preview:
1x4: Continuing Success – Eastern New Mexico men's and women's track and field programs are back to action with the outdoor season coming up. In 2024, Eastern finished seventh among men's programs in the Lone Star Conference and had their best placing ever for the women's team as they took third at the conference championship. Most point scorers from the 2024 team are back for ENMU in 2025. Several Greyhound student-athletes had standout indoor seasons as they continued to prepare for the outdoor season. Some of the notable marks during the indoor portion of the season for Eastern include both 60m hurdles records being broken by
Strahinja Radakovic (men's) and
Devyn Ericksen (women's), sophomore
Grizell Scarlett winning the conference championship in the 60m dash, and
Jamoi Jackson earning first team all-america honors at the 2025 NCAA DII indoor track and field championships.
2x4: Willie Williams Classic Outlook: Fifty entries will be featured from ENMU at the Willie Williams Classic hosted by the University of Arizona. This is the third-straight year where Eastern New Mexico will compete in this event. The most entries for the women's team will be in the 200m as five different Hounds will compete in the event. The most for the men will be four entries in the 100m, 200m, and 400m. Other colleges and universities participating in the meet include Arizona, Grand Canyon, UTEP, BYU, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Minot State, Arizona State, and Western Washington. Western New Mexico will join ENMU as the only other school from the Lone Star Conference competing in the event.
3x4: West Texas Relays Outlook: Several teams will join Eastern New Mexico in competing at the West Texas Relays this weekend. Some of those programs included, but not limited to are New Mexico JC, West Texas A&M, New Mexico Highlands, Oklahoma Panhandle State, Lubbock Christian, and South Plains. The Hounds will have 47 total entries in the meet. The busiest events for Eastern women will be the 100m and 200m as four Hounds will compete in both short sprints. The most entries for a men's event is in the 200m which will feature five Eastern student-athletes. Both the men's and women's team will enter a 4x400 in the meet as well.
4x4: Athletes To Watch: Four Greyhounds were recognized by the Lone Star Conference Wednesday afternoon as outdoor athletes to watch. Those on the list include
Alex Williams,
Strahinja Radakovic,
Grizell Scarlett, and
Kennedy Ulmer. All four student-athletes are competing this weekend at the Willie Williams Classic.
Alex Williams was named the male field athlete to watch as he is coming off a first team all-america finish at the 2024 NCAA DII outdoor championship. He specializes in the javelin and holds a personal best of 68.49m (224-8). Last year he took second at the conference championship.
Strahinja Radakovic is a freshman and was listed as the male track athlete to watch. He is coming off a third place finish at the indoor conference championship in the 60m hurdles.
Kennedy Ulmer is in her junior season and is the female field athlete to watch. Ulmer took first in the javelin and second in the discus at the 2024 outdoor conference championship.
Grizell Scarlett is a sophomore sprinter and was listed as the female track athlete to watch. She is coming off back-to-back indoor seasons winning the conference title in the 60m and is also the defending champ in the 100m.
