BIG SPRING, Texas – Graduate student
Shacie Marr won her third all-around title this season at the Howard College rodeo.
"It was great watching them compete this week. I was pretty pleased," said assistant coach
Albert Flinn when asked about the rodeo. "The team is happy and they rally around each other. Shacie (Marr) did almost everything you could ask someone to do and she won all-around."
Marr continued her incredible rodeo season with impressive performances in the breakaway and goats.
She had times of 8.8s (long) and 8.7s (short) in the goat tying. Her long round split 6/7/8 and her short round was good for third overall. She also finished third in average to earn a whopping 83.33 points in the event.
Marr did well in breakaway as she posted times of 2.6s (long) and 3.5s (short). Her long round split 3/4/5/6 and her short go earned second. She earned second place in the average to position herself with an additional 125 points.
In total, Marr won the all-around against 200+ cowgirls for the third time out of nine total rodeos this season. The New Mexico native ranks second in the region in all-around and is hoping to ink a spot to nationals with the next rodeo coming up in two weeks.
Tyra Tsosie had one of her best rodeos of her collegiate career. The first year Greyhound posted a 8.6s run in the long round of goat tying to earn 20 points. She helped the program earn a top three finish in Big Spring.
Walker Dennis was the only Greyhound men's student-athlete to make the short go. He did so with his partner Jarett Justiss (TTU) in the team roping. They did not earn any points in the event, but still earned an opportunity to compete Saturday night. Both
Tyson Mackenzie (9.4s) and
Zachary Townsend (10.0s) had opportunities to make it back in steer wrestling, but only came away with 13th and 17th place finishes, respectively.
Overall, the program now awaits the final rodeo of the season which will be in two weeks.
In the region, the women's team ranks fourth and the men's team sits in fifteenth. Townsend is 13th in steer wrestling.
Shacie Marr is fifth in barrels, fifth in breakaway, and eighth in goat tying. Her sister,
Shaeden Marr, is thirteenth in breakaway.
