CANYON, Texas – Eastern New Mexico women's track and field bettered four NCAA DII provisional marks at the Jo Meaker Classic this weekend.
"We wanted to make sure our team was rested. That was a big goal for us," said head coach
Joshua Harden. "We feel like the training and results are coming together."
The rest was well needed as several Greyhounds for the women's team made a major impact in Canyon.
Grizell Scarlett improved provisional marks in both the 100m and 200m. The sophomore ran 11.44s in the 100m and holds the eighth best mark nationally and second best among runners in the conference. Scarlett has a 23.98s result in the 200m and sits in the top 40 nationally and sixth among conference sprinters.
Scarlett was also a member of the 4x100 relay team who bettered their provisional time. She was joined by
Helena Carboo-Klutsey,
Jodian Stewart, and
Riley Midgett. The group ran a time of 45.90s and rank in the top 30 nationally.
Stewart put her name on the nationals radar in another event this weekend. The school record holder in long jump had a major personal best jump of 6.31m (20-8.5). Her mark is number three in the nation and first in the LSC.
In total, ten entries for women's track and field boasted personal records. Four of those came in the 100m from
Jodian Stewart (12.06s),
Riley Midgett (12.24s),
Meredith Brown (12.29s), and
Celina Thomas (12.55s).
Devyn Ericksen had two of those marks. The freshman finished the 200m in 25.37s and the 100m hurdles in 14.45s. Her hurdles finish improved her existing school record in the event.
Junior thrower
Kennedy Ulmer earned her third school record this weekend. The Rio Rancho, N.M. native threw 50.02m (164-1) in the hammer and now holds school records in the javelin, discus, and hammer.
Eastern New Mexico is expected to get back to action this Thursday at the Buffalo Invitational.
