Alex Williams closes season at nationals in Pueblo

Javelin specialist represents Eastern New Mexico on national stage, takes 13th

PUEBLO, Colo. – Alex Williams competed at his third outdoor nationals for Eastern New Mexico Saturday afternoon. The junior posted a 64.92m (213-0) mark to finish thirteenth in the field of 22 throwers.

"We did everything as far as what we had. He (Alex Williams) came out and put out some decent numbers. It just wasn't enough for us. We left a little bit of change on the table," said assistant coach Sinclair Pitts. "We are proud of the opportunity we had to compete."

Williams threw his top mark of the competition on his first attempt of the afternoon. The javelin spiraled into a hefty headwind and put Williams into third place in the first flight.

The breeze proved to be a challenge for the entire field pitting the Greyhound thrower into fifth place after the flight had been completed.

The second flight was filled with several top finishers and took Williams outside of the finals qualification (nine spots) after just the second attempt of the group.

The Kingston, Jamaica native completes his Greyhound career with three nationals appearances and one all-american honor. He earned that during the 2024 championships in Emporia, Kansas.

In 2025, he won the conference title for the first time and helped the men's program to a top five finish at the Lone Star Conference meet in Portales.

"First and foremost I want to thank God, my coaches, and my teammates. Even though I was battling a lot this season, they still believed in me and still pushed me," said Williams after the competition. "At the end of the day, I still got here regardless of the circumstances. I would like to thank those people."

The Greyhounds finished the 2025 season qualifying the most individuals to a national meet since the 2018 outdoor campaign. ENMU will close out the 2024-25 athletic year and turn their focus to the upcoming 2025-26 indoor track and field season beginning in December 2025.
