PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico women's track and field placed fifth at the 2025 Lone Star Conference outdoor track and field championships.
"To be able to host and compete you can't ask anything more than that," said head coach
Joshua Harden after the meet. "Having our women step up was awesome."
ENMU earned points in a variety of ways throughout the championships. The strongest groups included throws (17), jumps (16), and sprints (14) as Eastern finished with 64 overall points. They finished behind West Texas A&M (277.50), Angelo State (174), Texas A&M-Kingsville (71), and Midwestern State (65).
The highlight of the weekend came from the women's long jump.
Jodian Stewart earned a bid to the finals with a jump of 5.94m and proceeded to increase her mark on every single attempt during finals. Her sixth and final jump came out to a school record 6.41m (21-0.25) mark.
"For her to het over the hump was awesome," said Harden as he was talking about Stewart moving from second to first in the event.
The sprint crew was led by
Grizell Scarlett who advanced from the prelims in two different events. She ran the 100m in 11.43s to take second overall. She earned an additional podium finish in the 200m with a 23.65s time to earn third.
Freshman
Devyn Ericksen competed in the finals in both hurdles events. She placed third with a 14.05s time in the 100m hurdles and finished seventh in the 400m hurdles crossing in 1:05.28.
"Being able to do that was major," remarked Harden when reminiscing on Ericksen's performances this weekend.
For a second-straight season, the 4x100 squad made a trip to the podium. The crew of
Jodian Stewart,
Riley Midgett,
Helena Carboo-Klutsey, and
Grizell Scarlett crossed the line in 45.82s, nearly 0.7s faster than their time from the 2024 conference championship.
