PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team opens its 2025 season on the road in Silver City, N.M. at the Mustang Invitational hosted by Western New Mexico University. The Greyhounds will take on New Mexico Highlands at 9 a.m. and Sul Ross State at 4:30 p.m. on Friday followed by Fort Lewis at 11:30 a.m. and Western New Mexico at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
• Eastern New Mexico comes into 2025 following a 5-22 standing in 2024. ENMU landed in 14th place in the 2024 Lone Star Conference Preseason poll.
• The Greyhounds roster features 14 newcomers, with
Sophia Valdez,
Imahni Brown and and
Nevaeh Rodriquez returning to the lineup.
• Both Valdez and Brown played considerable time last season as both players started in all 27 matches for the Greyhounds last season.
• ENMU opens its season against New Mexico Highlands and in The Land of Enchantment for the first time since Sept. 29, 1997 where the Greyhounds defeated NMHU 3-0 in Silver City, N.M.
SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS
• New Mexico Highlands was selected 14th in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) poll, after holding a 5-21 record, and 2-12 in conference play in 2024.
• The Cowgirls have a few key returners, including Jaylee Gonzales who led the team in points (241.5), points per set (2.65 p/s), kills (214 kills), and kills per set (2.35 k/s) in 2024.
• Defensively, Meg Pfannerstill returns after leading the team in digs (240) and digs per set (2.58).
• ENMU leads the overall series between the Cowgirls 52-20-2. The last time the Greyhounds defeated the Cowgirls was on Sept. 20, 2016, 3-0 in Portales, N.M.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS
• Sul Ross State State finished 18th in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) preseason poll, after the Lobos finished 2-20 overall, and 2-14 in conference play.
• The Lobos look to use 13 returning players to drive the team forward. Leading the way are senior Sarah Chavez, sophomore Anna Kasper and junior Eliana Mata.
• Eastern New Mexico leads the series between the schools with a 24-11 record. ENMU holds a 24 match win-streak that dates back to Sept. 2, 1982.
SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS
• Fort Lewis College comes into the season following a 10-16 season, with a 6-8 conference record. Recently, the Skyhawks were pick 11th in the RMAC preseason poll.
• Defensive Specialist Emery Pomroy returns for the Skyhawks after leading the team last season in digs (292) and digs per set (3.36) and finished 11th in the RMAC in digs in 2024.
• Eastern New Mexico leads the series between the Skyhawks 8-3 and holds a one match win streak.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
• Western New Mexico is projected to finish 15th in the in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) preseason poll, following a 7-21 record, and 3-13 conference record in 2024.
• The Mustangs brought back Jayden Hughes being the top offensive returner with 2.10 k/s and 175 total kills.
• ENMU and WNMU will meet for the 53rd time in series history, with the Greyhounds holding a 35-17 overall record. The Greyhounds last won at home on Sept. 21, 2024 defeating the Mustangs in five sets.
