PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico's first cross country meet is set for September 5th in Lawton, Okla. Both the men's and women's programs are expected to compete. Before the Aggie Duels begins, please read the Three Mile Preview:
1.) Preseason Outlook: The men's program sits in 13th and the women's team is predicted 14th in the Lone Star Conference preseason polls.
Thomas Aerdts and
Eloy Serrano Borrego represent ENMU as the men's preseason runners to watch.
Chama El Hadiri and
Elizabeth Lujan-Towles are the women's preseason runners to watch. In both polls, West Texas A&M is predicted to finish atop the league and DBU is expected to finish second. All league programs will compete against each other at the conference championships in Fort Worth, Texas on October 24. The postseason meet will be hosted by DBU.
2.) Starting The Day: ENMU women's cross country will be the first team to compete Friday morning at the Lawton Soccer Club in Lawton, Okla with an 8 a.m. (CT) start. They will run a 5k. The men will follow with an 8k beginning at 8:25 a.m. (CT). The first meet of the season is hosted by fellow conference foe, Cameron. In total, 13 colleges are expected to compete in the meet. Cameron, Eastern New Mexico, Midwestern State, and West Texas A&M are the programs from the Lone Star Conference running in the competition.
3.) The Lineup: The Greyhound men will be represented by eight runners. Five returners and three newcomers will be featured in the race. The returners include
Thomas Aerdts,
Alec Forney,
Jackson Gable,
Emmanuel Hernandez, and
Brian Norton. Newcomers for Eastern are
Aiden Ramirez,
Eloy Serrano Borrego, and
Mason Taylor. The women will also have eight runners in the competition with two returning from the 2024 cross country squad.
Elizabeth Lujan-Towles and
Valentina Rocabado Salazar are back with the program for the second season. Newcomers include
Treasure Burrows,
Alina Caballero,
Chama El Hadiri,
Maya Garcia Schafer,
Madison Manuelito, and
Joella Mathilda.
