LAWTON, Okla. – Eastern New Mexico women's cross country began the season at the Aggie Duels hosted by conference foe Cameron.

"I am proud of the women's team," said assistant coach Keyanah Browning. "We had a good first meet and I am looking forward to how the season progresses."

The women opened up the morning of races at the Lawton Soccer Club with a 5k featuring three loops around the perimeter of the facility. The course typically runs fast as there are plenty of straight-aways and areas where runners can take advantage of pace and rhythm in the competition. Overall, the weather was cloudy with noticeable humidity in the air.

Eastern's first finisher was preseason Lone Star Conference runner to watch Elizabeth Lujan-Towles (46th, 21:15.50). The second year Greyhound paced herself near a couple runners from regionally based DII programs and finished the 5k race near the middle of the field of 86 runners.

Two newcomers earned the next best times for ENMU. Alina Caballero (55th, 21:34.47) and Maya Garcia Schafer (57th, 21:43.15). Sophomore Valentina Rocabado Salazar (81st, 26:16.37) and junior Treasure Burrows (82nd, 28:33.39) were the other finishers for Eastern New Mexico.

ENMU women's cross country is back in action this upcoming Friday, September 12 as they travel to Lubbock, Texas for the Texas Tech Open.
