PORTALES, N.M. – Six Greyhounds made the top-five record books for Eastern New Mexico men's track and field after a solid outing at the New Mexico Team Open Jan. 30-31.
"We are still improving the record books," said head coach
Joshua Harden when asked about some of the top Greyhound marks in Albuquerque. "Ultimate goal is to get to the national meet and be consistent."
Newcomer
Stefan Camejo beat out
Timothy Frederick's 400m time with a 47.04s mark. He now ranks second among all Greyhounds in school history. Camejo's time is also an NCAA DII provisional and sits tied for fifth in the nation.
Andre Smikle broke the school record in weight throw with a 15.39m (50-6) throw. He set the new mark just three weeks after teammate
Devin Mata set the school record in Flagstaff.
Trevon Dennard competed well in the triple jump. The first year ENMU student-athlete jumped 14.27m (46-10) to boast the best mark by a Greyhound since Reggie Asare set the school record in 1979.
Eastern ran a distance medley relay for the first time since 2022. The crew set the third best time in school history with a 10:39.42. The quad representing ENMU included
Thomas Aerdts,
Alec Forney,
Brian Norton, and
Eloy Serrano Borrego. Serrano Borrego set an NCAA DII provisional with a 1:52.24 time in the 800m and is top 30 in the country this season. He now ranks third in school history directly behind Ivar Moinat and Mike Boit.
Currently, five different Greyhounds hold provisional marks.
Eastern New Mexico track and field will be back in action next at a meet hosted by Texas Tech Feb. 13-14. For more information, please visit www.goeasternathletics.com
