4x4 Preview: Friday Night Axe 'Em Open

Eastern New Mexico track and field travels to Northern Arizona

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico track and field is beginning the 2026 portion of the indoor season with a familiar meet. The Greyhounds are traveling to compete at the Friday Night Axe 'Em Open in Flagstaff, Ariz. Before the meet, please take a look at the 4x4 Preview:

1x4 – Early Noise: Eastern New Mexico men's track and field had a notable showing at the Washburn Alumni Invitational last month as the team began the 2025-26 campaign. Two men earned NCAA DII provisional marks at the competition. Sophomore Strahinja Radakovic holds the 11th best time in the 60m hurdles as he posted an 8.03s time in Kansas. He was 0.06s shy of his current best time in the event. In his final season with ENMU, Hemon Joseph already has a provisional mark in long jump as he posted a 7.33m (24-0.75) mark. Joseph ranks 5th among all DII jumpers and is second all-time in school record books with the result.

2x4 – Notable Momentum: Two women's track and field student-athletes earned provisional marks in Topeka, Kan. to begin the season. Devyn Ericksen finished the 60m hurdles with an 8.78s times and sits 27th in the nation in the event. She earned a second place finish at the Washburn meet in the hurdles event. Celina Thomas jumped 12.18m (39-11.5) in the triple jump. Her mark is 4th among all competitors in the event. Thomas won the event at the December meet. Other noteworthy finishes include second place results from SeiOriana Glass (weight throw – 16.08m (52-9.25)) and Chama El Hadiri (mile – 5:12.94).

3x4 – Eyes on Mid-Distance: A pair of mid-distance runners had top five finishes at the Washburn meet in December. Eloy Serrano Borrego (1:53.12) took first in the 800m race and Brian Norton (1:57.63) took fifth in the field. Two Hounds will compete in the 800m at NAU with Norton and Alec Forney entering the competition. Serrano Borrego will join Thomas Aerdts in the mile. Serrano Borrego comes into the meet with the sixth best time in the mile in the 20-runner field.

4x4 – Meet Details: The Friday Night Axe 'Em Open is a singular day meet hosted by Northern Arizona. The first field events (pole vault and long jump) begin at 1 p.m. The first running event is the 60m hurdles set to start at 4 p.m. The most entries in a single running event for the men is the 60m with Hemon Joseph, Nicolo Salaris, Abisai Torres, Strahinja Radakovic, John Magee, Cooper Burgess, and Jamo Williams expected to compete. The weight throw will feature nine Greyhound men – Noe Ybaben Burciaga, Devin Mata, Andre Smikle, Braden Pry, Ricardo Neira, Roman Alvarado, Dylan Contreras, Kyle Covington, and Emiliano Morrison. The Greyhounds will have 12 women compete in the 60m – Riley Midgett, Gabriela Elizalde, Ambrosia Francis, Devyn Ericksen, Journie Alexander, Celina Thomas, Meredith Brown, Jerriana McWilliams, Korah Ives, Amarie Brown, Cynthia Gutierrez, and Leah Medina. Nine Greyhounds will participate in the weight throw – SeiOriana Glass, Jha'Niah Johnson, Vivica Addison, Kennedy Ulmer, Olivia Lucero, Leslie Jaquez, Paige Fowler, Madison Gigler, and Liana Moncivais.
