PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico track and field is set for the second outdoor meet of the season. This time, the Greyhounds will be headed to the Hub City for a competition hosted by Texas Tech. Before the day gets going, please take a look at the 4x4 Preview.
1x4 – Recap The Week: Two Greyhounds with NCAA DII provisional marks highlighted Eastern New Mexico's trip to El Paso, Texas last weekend. Manny Chavez earned a 61.93m (203-2) throw in the javelin and ranks 22nd nationally. Also in the javelin,
Vivica Addison started the season with a 43.30m (142-1) throw and sits 15th among DII student-athletes.
Trevon Dennard (triple jump) is the only Greyhound to win an event at the Miners Invitational. His 14.54m (47-8.5) mark beat out the field of five competitors.
Minerva Cerda Hernandez (pole vault) and
Jerriana McWilliams (triple jump) were the only Hounds to win an event at UTEP. Cerda-Hernandez set her existing school record to a higher mark as she vaulted 3.60m (11-9.75). McWilliams beat out four competitors in the triple jump with an 11.64m (38-2.25) leap.
2x4 – Masked Rider: Texas Tech moved up the Masked Rider Open to Thursday in Lubbock due to expected cooler temperatures over the weekend. It will be between the 80s and 90s throughout the meet at TTU with wind blowing between 10-20 miles per hour. The throws will begin at 10 a.m. in all four events – javelin, hammer, discus, and shot put. The women will go first followed by the men. Long jump, high jump, and pole vault will begin at 3 p.m. with triple jump to follow at 5 p.m. The running events begin with the steeplechase at 5 p.m. and continue throughout the evening until the 4x400 taking place approximately at 9:55 p.m. The first event ENMU will partake in on the track is the women's 4x100 starting at 5:45 p.m. All times listed are central time.
3x4 – Top Five Shakeup: The top five school record books saw a little movement after the first outdoor meet of the season. Cerda-Hernandez improved her school record with the aforementioned 3.60m pole vault clearance.
Journie Alexander moved into fifth all-time with a long jump of 5.59m.
Aeriana Langley is tied for second in the high jump with a 1.65m clearance. McWilliams now sits in third with her 11.64m mark in triple jump.
Ashley Richburg is in a tie for fifth with an 11.30m jump in triple jump.
Jha'Niah Johnson is now in second in the hammer with a 49.55m toss. Addison now sits in fourth with her javelin throw of 43.30m. As for the men,
Eloy Serrano Borrego is second with a 1:51.31 finish in the 800m. Dennard is fifth in school history with a 14.54m mark in the triple jump.
Andre Smikle sits fifth at ENMU with a 49.58m discus throw.
Devin Mata is second at Eastern with a 50.08m hammer throw.
Braden Pry is fourth in the hammer throw at 46.95m. Freshman Manny Chavez is third at ENMU with a 61.93m mark in the javelin.
4x4 – Who To Watch: The 4x100 relay teams will be a group to watch for Eastern New Mexico as they were unable to get a time at last week's meet. Their race is slated for 5:45 p.m. for the women and 5:50 p.m. for the men. Another race to keep an eye on is the women's 100m hurdles which will feature
Devyn Ericksen and
Korah Ives at 6:25 p.m. and the men's 110m hurdles at 6:35 p.m. with
Byron Pruitt in the field. The men's 800m field consists of four heats and will see ENMU's
Eloy Serrano Borrego and
Thomas Aerdts run at 7:55 p.m. Eastern will have relay teams in both the women's race at 9:55 p.m. and the men's race at 10:05 p.m. Some throws events to keep an eye on include javelin and discus. Greyhounds in the javelin include
Deziree Bosquez,
Vivica Addison, Manny Chavez,
Aaron Estrada, and
Devin Gallegos. The discus field will feature
