BSB Four Bases: Oklahoma Christian

Eastern New Mexico baseball begins four-game series with Oklahoma Christian

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico baseball is back on the road for a four-game series against Oklahoma Christian. Before the Greyhounds hit the road against the Eagles, please take a look at the Four Bases Preview:

First Base – Fourth-Straight Split: Eastern New Mexico split their last series with Sul Ross State. The Greyhounds dropped the first two games of the weekend to the Lobos before coming back and winning the final two. SRSU earned 11-5 and 9-6 wins, while ENMU posted victories with 16-10 and 6-4 results. Eastern has now split series against Cameron, UT Permian Basin, UT Tyler, and Sul Ross State. ENMU will face Oklahoma Christian in Edmond over the next three days. OC has split against Lubbock Christian and Texas A&M International. They have lost every other series played. The Greyhounds have not won a series versus Oklahoma Christian since 2022 when the programs faced off in the Sooner state.

Second Base – Lineup Adjusting: As the season progresses, the Eastern New Mexico batting lineup has adjusted. Five Greyhounds who have started 20+ games hit above the .300 mark. Eiji Sawamura leads the program with a .372 average and has recently served as the primary leadoff hitter. Sawamura struggled in the two losses to SRSU, but made a major difference in the final two contests by grabbing three hits in both games. In Sunday's contest, the Japan native had three stolen bases. Sawamura is the only player on the team to play in all 30 games. Logan Martin (.319), Cole Curtis (.316), Isaiah Figueroa (.313), and Gabriel Watson (.308). are the other Hounds above the .300 line. Watson has a team-high six homers. Curtis has added a program-best three triples.

Third Base – On The Mound: Eastern New Mexico is slowly decreasing the overall team ERA, but three players in particular have seen increased proficiency on the mound. Cole Lancaster leads the Greyhounds with a 6.86 ERA through eight appearances. He has allowed 45 hits, 34 runs (31 earned), and 22 walks over 40.2 innings of work. He boasts a team-high 32 strikeouts and holds opposing batters to a .269 average. The most notable stat is that through his last four appearances he has guided the Hounds to a victory and has gone at least five innings. Charlie Pierson holds a 7.45 ERA through 38.2 innings. He has 26 strikeouts and is coming off a four inning outing where he allowed six runs on seven hits to the Lobos. Demitrius DiMatteo might be one of the hottest arms for ENMU. Last weekend he threw 7.1 innings in relief allowing one run on four hits and three walks. He came into the outing with a double digit deficit, but kept Eastern in the contest from a defensive standpoint.

Home – Staying Alive: Eastern New Mexico comes into the series in tenth place in conference standings. Oklahoma Christian sits in twelfth. ENMU holds a 10-20 mark in conference play, but the series versus OC is the only one left for the Hounds where a team is below them in LSC standings. The final four series for the Hounds includes St. Mary's (H), Lubbock Christian (A), Angelo State (H), and Texas A&M International (A). The Eagles lean heavily on the bats of Trey Migl and Jontae Hennesy. Migl is a senior outfielder who began the season on a nine-game hitting streak. He sports a .370 average with 37 total hits. The Oklahoma native had three hits in the four-game series versus the Greyhounds in 2025. Hennesy stands with a .344 average and a notable eight stolen bases on just nine attempts. The senior from Arizona had three consecutive multihit games against ENMU last season. He has scored a run in four of the last five games for OC. Evan Ballast leads the team on the mound with a 5.40 ERA alongside 43.1 innings and 38 strikeouts. Ballast began his collegiate career at Midland College before transferring to Eastern New Mexico. Last season in an appearance versus ENMU, he went four innings of work allowing one run on three hits and three walks.
