PORTALES, N.M. – Saturday's Greyhound Open saw 19 Eastern New Mexico men's track and field student-athletes earn personal best marks.
"A great opportunity to compete at home," said head coach
Joshua Harden after the meet. "Looking forward on building on this momentum as we head to the final portion of the season."
Braden Pry moved into the top five of school records with a 48.47m throw in hammer. He placed third among all competitors in the field. He was one of three Hounds with a PR in the event.
Dylan Contreras (40.49m) and
Roman Alvarado (37.20m) joined Pry with personal top throws.
Three Greyhounds had career days in the discus.
Kyle Covington (43.09m),
Emiliano Morrison (41.61m), and
Dylan Contreras (38.43m) had personal bests.
Andre Smikle was the top discus thrower for ENMU with a mark of 49.85m to win the overall event. It was one of three events won by a Hound at the meet.
Devon Falco was the top finisher in the triple jump with a leap of 14.26m.
Jackson Gable earned a win in the 5000m with a time of 16:44.73.
Other notable performances include PR's from
Kyler Joe (100m – 10.72s),
Brian Norton (800m – 1:54.19), and
Thomas Aerdts (High Jump – 1.90m).
Eastern recognized
Noe Ybaben Burciaga,
Byron Pruitt,
Kyler Joe, and
Ricardo Neira as part of senior day ceremonies.
"We have a great group," said Harden when asked about the graduates. "We're really blessed to be in this position and see these Greyhounds grow not only as athletes, but as people who will do great things in this world."
Eastern New Mexico will compete in one more meet to close out the regular season slate before the conference championships in Canyon.
