SAN ANGELO, Texas – Going into the final regular season meet before the Lone Star Conference championships it did not look like ENMU women's track and field would confidently have someone qualify for outdoor nationals. After a strong meet at Angelo State, one Greyhound has positioned themselves in an ideal spot to go to nationals for a second consecutive year.
"Needed that for sure," said head coach
Joshua Harden after the meet. "We feel good about it and we still have more in the tank."
Kennedy Ulmer improved her school record and now ranks ninth nationally in the discus with a 50.71m (166-4) throw. She is in a prime position to make nationals for a second time in her collegiate career. This is the third year in a row that she has posted a NCAA DII provisional mark in the discus. Ulmer also ranks 32nd in the nation in javelin but will need to improve her mark by at least three meters to be in the running for a bid to compete at nationals in javelin.
Eight Greyhounds improved their standings with impressive marks at the ASU Invite. Three of those came in the 100m as
Ambrosia Francis (11.99s),
Journie Alexander (12.03s), and
Devyn Ericksen (12.12s) are all in the top 20 in the LSC in the short sprint race. Ericksen also moved into No. 2 slot in the 100m hurdles among conference runners with a 14.05s time.
Journie Alexander moved to No. 5 with a 5.81m jump in long jump. She now ranks second all-time in school record books.
Jerriana McWilliams is fourth in the conference with a 11.77m mark in triple jump. That puts her third in the all-time school list.
Freshman
Paige Fowler joined Ulmer with a strong performance in discus. She is fifth this year in the LSC and third in school rankings with a 44.96m throw. Ulmer ranks second in the conference.
Eastern New Mexico will now turn their attention to the Lone Star Conference outdoor track and field championships in Canyon on May 7-9. Follow
