ENMU men's track & field finishes fifth at conference championships

Burgess, Smikle win individual conference titles in Canyon

CANYON, Texas - The Eastern New Mexico men's track and field team wrapped up the 2026 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with strong performances over three days of competition in Canyon, Texas.

The Hounds finished fifth out of 12 teams with 86 points
 
West Texas A&M claimed both team titles, scoring 166 points on the men's side and 250 on the women's side.
 
Cooper Burgess led the way for the Greyhound men, capturing the long jump title with a personal-best mark of 7.45 meters (24-5.50), which ranks 15th in Division II this season. Burges' winning jump came with a 1.5 m/s wind reading.
 
Devon Falco turned in an impressive performance in the triple jump, taking second place with a leap of 14.96m (49-1.00) that ranks 22nd nationally and established a new personal best. Falco also placed eighth in the long jump at 6.98m (22-10.75).
 
Andre Smikle swept the throwing events with a pair of top-six finishes. Smikle won the discus throw with a personal-best heave of 54.71m (179-6), good for 11th in Division II, and added a sixth-place finish in the shot put at 15.22m (49-11.25), also a personal best. He placed ninth in the hammer throw at 49.39m (162-0).
 
Thomas Aerdts cleared 1.96m (6-5.00) for a personal best and second-place finish in the high jump, while also running a leg on the 4x400m relay.
 
In the triple jump, Trevon Dennard placed fourth at 14.23m (46-8.25) and Angelo Bowser finished fifth with a personal-best 14.21m (46-7.50). Bowser also competed in the long jump, finishing 10th at 6.74m (22-1.50).
 
The Hounds scored points in the javelin throw as Manny Chavez took third with a mark of 60.59m (198-9). Aaron Estrada placed sixth at 51.06m (167-6), Devin Gallegos was seventh at 50.10m (164-4) and Devin Mata finished ninth at 47.82m (156-10).
 
In the hammer throw, Braden Pry placed sixth at 50.03m (164-1) and Mata added an eighth-place finish at 49.69m (163-0). Noe Ybaben Burciaga earned eighth in the shot put with a personal-best 14.79m (48-6.25).
 
Strahinja Radakovic advanced to the 110m hurdles final after qualifying second in the prelims with a time of 14.38. He finished third in the final at 14.08. Byron Pruitt also qualified for the final and placed seventh at 14.65.
 
Pruitt also competed in the 400m hurdles, where he qualified for the final and finished fifth with a personal-best time of 53.56.
 
Eloy Serrano Borrego placed fifth in the 800m with a time of 1:53.96 and ran a leg on the 4x400m relay. In the 800m prelims, Serrano Borrego qualified second at 1:52.53.
 
The men's 4x100m relay team of John Magee, Nicolo Salaris, Jamo Williams and Abisai Torres placed sixth with a time of 40.75. The 4x400m relay squad of Eric Collins, Aerdts, Serrano Borrego and Pruitt finished seventh at 3:14.53.
 
Salaris competed in the 100m prelims, finishing 16th at 10.61.

ENMU will now await word on potential NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships qualifiers. The national meet is scheduled for later this month in Emporia, Kan.
