Zias to Honor Seniors on Saturday, Host Two Matches to End Regular Season

PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico volleyball team ends the regular season with two Lone Star Conference matches in Greyhound Arena that will determine seeding for the conference tournament. Friday sees the Zias take on Texas A&M-Commerce at 7 p.m. for Military Appreciation Night. Eastern will then host Texas Woman's at 1 p.m. on Saturday and prior to the contest the team will honor the squad's five seniors.

Lone Star Conference Tournament Seeding
Entering the weekend, the Zias are in sixth place in the LSC and have a half game lead over Cameron and are one up on Texas A&M-Commerce. ENMU has already clinched a berth in the conference tournament but seeding is still up for grabs as they could wind up with the sixth, seventh or eighth.
 
Eastern currently has the tie breaker over Cameron and Midwestern State thanks to their win over Tarleton State. The Lions do have a win over Angelo State which would factor into the seeding. The winner of the ASU/TSU match on Friday would be at least the third seed in the tournament while the worst the loser could finish is fourth.
 
The following scenarios are for the Zias seeding in the LSC Tournament.
 
6th Seed Scenario 1: ENMU beats A&M-C.
6th Seed Scenario 2: ENMU losses to A&M-C, ENMU beats TWU, West Texas A&M beats A&M-C on Saturday.
6th Seed Scenario 3: ENMU goes 0-2 over the weekend, TSU beats ASU, WT beats A&M-C, Texas A&M-Kingsville beats Cameron.
 
7th Seed Scenario 1: A&M-C beats ENMU and WT, ENMU beats TWU.
7th Seed Scenario 2: ENMU goes 0-2, TAMUK beats CU, WT defeats A&M-C, ASU defeats TSU.
7th Seed Scenario 3: ENMU goes 0-2, TAMUK beats CU, A&M-C defeats WT.
 
8th Seed Scenario 1: ENMU goes 0-2, CU beats TAMUK, WT defeats A&M-C, ASU defeats TSU.
8th Seed Scenario 2: ENMU goes 0-2, CU beats TAMUK, A&M-C defeats WT.
 
Scouting Eastern New Mexico
Sophomore Lauren Frye reached the 300 kill mark for the second consecutive season to lead the team with 308 and averages 2.99 k/s. Senior Agatha Gibbons has totaled 230 kills for 2.21 k/s while fellow classmate Lindsey Barron comes into the weekend with 2.30 k/s and 221 total kills. Only eight kills away for 200 this year is sophomore Courtney Lawson.
 
Setting them up is seniors Kennedi Catano and Karra Day. Catano is averaging a team-best 5.36 a/s while Day contributes with 4.85 a/s.
 
Both sophomore Lindsay Bost and Lawson have a team-high 33 service aces. They are the first Zias to have at least 30 aces in a season since Caitlin Murphy in 2009 when she had 33.
 
Defensively, freshman Andrea Aguilar is getting a team-high 3.45 d/s. Since taking over as the libero 11 matches ago, she has 188 digs for a 4.59 d/s mark. Bost is second on the team with 3.32 d/s and Lawson is close behind her with 3.16 d/s.
 
Gibbons is third in the LSC with 112 total blocks while her 1.08 b/s average is the sixth highest. Of her block total, 25 of them have been solo rejections. Senior Bree Anna Lucero is eight blocks shy of reaching triple-digits this season. She and Gibbons could become the first ENMU duo to have at least 100 blocks in a season since 2005.
 
As a team, ENMU is hitting .170 with 11.9 k/s and 11.2 a/s. They recorded 138 service aces but have hit into 166 errors. The Zias are getting 14.0 d/s and have 219 blocks. Opposing teams are hitting .163 against Eastern with 11.4 k/s and 10.8 a/s.
 
Scouting Texas A&M-Commerce
Texas A&M-Commerce is currently in eighth in the conference, the last spot to qualify for the LSC Tournament. The Lions are a half a match up on Midwestern State while trailing Cameron by half a match and Eastern New Mexico by one contest. On Tuesday, A&M-C defeated Henderson State in three sets in their final home match of the year.
 
Amy Davault leads the Lions and the league with 4.20 k/s after a 25-kill performance on Tuesday against Henderson State. She also has a team-high 20 service aces. Veronika Baric and Taryn Driver are contributing 2.17 and 2.12 k/s, respectively. Setting them up is Courtney Tate with 9.79 a/s.
 
Ashley Mireles is fifth in the LSC in d/s (4.83) while Davault is adding 3.37 d/s. At the net, Delanee Clark comes in with a team-best 60 blocks. Sydney Reyes is second with 57 rejections.
 
As a team, A&M-C is hitting .170 with 12.6 k/s and 11.9 a/s. They have a LSC-low 91 service aces and have surrendered 153 to opposing squads. Defensively, the Lions are getting 17.3 d/s and record 1.5 b/s while totaling 153 on the year. Opponents are recording 13.3 k/s, 12.4 a/s and a .229 attack percentage.
 
Scouting Texas Woman's
Texas Woman's goes into the final weekend of LSC action second in the standings. They have a 1.5 match advantage over Angelo State and Tarleton State. The Pioneers have won eight straight with their last defeat coming against West Texas A&M on Oct. 4. Prior to playing the Zias, TWU will face the Lady Buffs Friday night.
 
Elizabeth Pennington is the top player on the team. She paces the squad in kills (317), k/s (3.05), attack percentage (.343), service aces (38) and blocks (122). Both Mallory Kuechle (2.56) and Jaqueline Santos (2.73) are averaging over two kills a set. Joey Redwine paces the team with 8.71 a/s, placing her fourth in the LSC.
 
Santos is nearing triple-digits in blocks this year. She currently has 92 with only eight of them being solo rejections. Hillary Shaffer has added 82 blocks. Second in the conference with 5.13 d/s is Morgan Wilson.
 
TWU comes into the weekend averaging 12.5 k/s and 11.4 a/s with a .196 attack percentage. They have 126 service aces while surrendering 114. At the net, they have LSC-high 268 blocks and are tied for the conference lead with 2.58 b/s. Opposing teams are hitting just .145 against them with 12.6 k/s and 12.0 a/s.
