The Eastern New Mexico University softball team will host a LSC doubleheader against Tarleton State on Friday. The first game will begin at 1 p.m. MT. The teams will meet again on Saturday, which will be senior day for the Zias.

Game 1
Audrey Velasquez reached base on a one-out single in the first inning of the opener. After a walk to Morgan Green (Jr., 3B, Carmichael, Calif./Del Campo HS/Sacramento City College) and a sacrifice from Aurelia Sandoval (Sr., C, Farmington, N.M./Piedra Vista HS), Eastern had the go-ahead run just 60 feet from home plate, but TWU pitcher Tori Bice induced a ground ball to escape the jam.

Zia starting pitcher Katie Ripple (So., Rio Rancho, N.M./V. Sue Cleveland HS) held Texas Woman's hitless over the first two innings, but the Pioneers sent seven batters to the plate in the bottom of the third and plated four runs. TWU scored their first run of the game on a sacrifice fly from Nicole Nordie, while the rest of the runs in the frame came with two outs.

Texas Woman's added four runs in the fifth inning and the game ended due to their eight-run lead. Vanessa Ramirez (Sr., P, Lubbock, Texas/Lubbock HS) tossed 2/3 of an inning in relief and allowed just one hit.

The Pioneers held an 8-4 edge in total hits. Sandoval and Jacqueline Candelaria (Sr., CF, Los Lunas, N.M./Los Lunas HS) led off the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, with singles. Bice scattered three hits over four innings to earn the victory for Texas Woman's.

Game 2
The nightcap also saw Audrey Velasquez register a one-out base hit, this time a double. She took third base on a single from Kyra Sirag (Jr., C/1B, Garden Grove, Calif./Rancho Alamitos HS), but Bice induced a ground ball for an inning-ending double play to escape the jam. In the bottom of the inning, the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish on a sacrifice fly from Alyssa Galaz.

Texas Woman's plated two more runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth. The contest ended after the top of the fifth frame, due to the eight-run lead.

TWU held a 9-7 lead in hits, but enjoyed a 3-1 edge in extra base hits. Both Audrey and Elizabeth Velasquez had two hits in the game. Bice scattered seven hits to earn her 16th win of the season.
