2-0 Greyhound Men's Soccer Looks to Make it Three Straight Against Pioneers

PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico men's soccer team will head to Plainview, Texas this Friday to take on Wayland Baptist University and look for their third straight win.

The Greyhounds are coming off wins against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Adams State University.  ENMU has scored three goal in each of their games and only allowed two, both by UCCS.

Carlos Viveros and Ryan McManus each have two goals on the season, scoring one each game.  Goalkeeper James Gutierrez shut out Adams State in their contest and has 13 saves on the season for a .867 save percentage.

Head coach Paul Tate said, "These guys are just goal hungry and have been coming up big for us in games, especially in the closing minutes.  Having veteran leadership from them is huge and really nice to have."

Gutierrez will need to come up big against the aggressive offense of WBU.  The Pioneers have outscored opponents 10-6 in their three matches (2-1 record on the season) and have taken an incredible 59 shots with 26 shots on goal.

"They are definitely a good team and have been very solid for the last four or five years.  They always compete hard and have some good talent on their team," Tate said of the Pioneers.

ENMU is 2-3-1 against WBU all-time.  The match will kick off at 4:00 p.m. (MT) Friday, Sept. 11.
