Volleyball Begins Crucial Three-Game Swing On Tuesday at Greyhound Arena

The ENMU Greyhounds volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of Greyhound Arena on Tuesday to take on UTPB before hitting the road once again to do battle with Texas Woman's University and Texas A&M-Commerce. First serve in Tuesday and Friday's match is slated for 6 p.m. while Saturday's match begins at 1 p.m.

• ENMU Head Coach Sia Poyer (48-68), in his fourth-year at the helm of the volleyball program, needs a pair of victories to eclipse the 50-win plateau.
 
• During the four-match winning streak, Eastern has recorded three-set sweeps in all of those matches for the first time since 2001. The winning streak is the longest by the 'Hounds since the 2004 team won five-straight from Oct. 26-Nov.11.
 
• Eastern ranks in the top-100 in NCAA DII in a number of statistical categories:

• Lauren Frye enters the weekend with 1,566 career kills to rank No. 3 on the all-time list and needs 129 to break Christabell Mariner's program record of 1,695. The senior sits 11th-nationally in total kills this season with 378 and is second in the conference behind Tarleton's State's Hailey Roberts for the LSC lead. Frye is coming off a monster weekend, recording 39 kills in the two matches, including 23 in the three-set win over Cameron. The senior has been named the offensive player of the week three times this season from the Lone Star Conference.

• Junior Brooklyn Biel ranks second on the team with 280 kills and is hitting at a .291 clip on the year. The junior middle blocker from Laveen, Ariz. has 52 blocks on the year to lead the team. Biel hit .600 with 14 kills on Saturday against Cameron.
 
• Senior Courtney Lawson was named one of three Academic Greyhounds of the year last year and has 33 double-doubles during her tenure at ENMU, including eight this season. The senior from Rio Rancho, N.M. has 208 kills, 272 digs and 26 aces to go along with 21 blocks.

• Junior Alexis Aguirre and sophomore Kaitlyn Kluna have set the table for the offense this season, dishing out a combined 1,019 assists. Aguirre has 604 on the year, with Kluna not far behind at 415. Aguirre currently ranks seventh on the career list with 1,706 assists.
 
Lone Star Conference Outlook/Standings
• The Greyhounds were picked to finish ninth in the Lone Star Conference, despite returning 13 letterwinners
• Tarleton State's Hailey Roberts was named Offensive Player of the Year, Texas Woman's Sara Oxford earned Defensive Player of the Year acclaim, and Texas A&M-Kingsville's Casey Klobedans was tabbed Setter of the Year.
• Angelo State was the narrow favorite to capture the Lone Star Conference title, according to the 2016 LSC volleyball preseason poll. The league's preseason polls reflect the opinions of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.

• WTAMU Lady Buff Classic - Eastern finished 3-1 at the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Classic. Senior Lauren Frye led the tournament with 73 kills while Brooklyn Biel and Andrea Aguilar were named to the All-Tournament team.
• Tarleton State Tournament - Eastern went 1-3 at the Tarleton State Tournament in Stephenville. Lauren Frye and Kaitlyn Kluna were named to the All-Tournament team.
