Segler Era Begins at ENMU
Head Coach
Tres Segler will make his debut with the 'Hounds on Friday in the season opener against NMHU. The first-year head coach was named the 13th head coach in school history in April. Most recently, Segler served as the top assistant coach for Midwestern State University where he helped the Mustangs to a 177-48 (.787) record and three times helped guide MSU to a LSC championship. Over the course of his career, the College Station, Texas, native has worked with noted NBA stars, Royal Ivey, PJ Tucker, Daniel Gibson, LaMarcus Aldridge, DJ Augustin, Kevin Durant, Damian James, Dexter Pittman, Avery Bradley and Jordan Hamilton.

The Greyhounds return seven players from last year's 6-20 squad.

Javaan Mumtaz returns to the court for Eastern and is the top scoring threat for the 'Hounds. The Auckland, New Zealand, native averaged 10.2 points-per-game last year and recorded a string of six-straight games of scoring 10+ points and three-straight games of 20+ points.

Chris Wyms and junior
Kevin Saiz are the only players on the roster with multiple years of experience with the Greyhounds. Both players have been with the team since the 2014-15 season, but Wyms was sidelined for much of the season last year due to an injury. Saiz saw significant action a year ago in the senior's absence, making 20 starts.

Junior
Kevin Saiz averaged just over five points a game last year after making the most of his opportunities early in the season. The Corrales, New Mexico, native shot at a 42.3 percent clip last year and was good 41 percent of the time from beyond the arc.

Protect The Rock
As a team, Eastern had a negative assist/turnover margin during the 2015-16 campaign by a wide margin. The Greyhounds dished out 257 assists while giving the ball away on 436 possessions, a 0.59 assist/turnover ratio.

King of the Hill
Senior
Chaunce Hill put together a strong 2015-16 campaign. He recorded a double-double against Wayland Baptist, scoring 12 points and collecting 17 rebounds off the bench. He was rewarded for his strong outing by being inserted into the starting lineup the following game against Cameron.

Eastern features an abundance of new faces on the 2016-17 squad. Along with the coaching staff, Head Coach
Tres Segler brought in 12 new players to fill out his roster.

Lone Star Conference Outlook
Midwestern State topped the 2016-17 Lone Star Conference men's basketball preseason poll as voted on by LSC Head Coaches and SIDs. West Texas A&M's David Chavlovich was named Preseason Player of the Year.
